When you're spending $80,000 on any car - let alone a Ute - the 2024 Toyota HiLux GR Sport is just not good enough...

Sure, it is the best HiLux ever - but considering the Toyota HiLux has falled really far behind the Ford Ranger, Volkswagen Amarok and even the Isuzu D-Max, it's hard to justify spending so much. Today we're going to objectively review the Toyota HiLux GR Sport, seeing everything it got right - like the upgraded power and torque, to what it still gets wrong, like the old, outdated and low-quality interior. Strap yourselves in! This is going to be a bumpy ride (quite literally).

They aren’t side steps. They are rock sliders. You can actually put the full weight of the hilux on them. They aren’t meant to be normal side steps

Those aren't normal sidesteps, they're rock rails, designed to protect the body of the truck.

Price is truly amazingly good compared to a 79 series dual cab, now theres a vehicle that is a total rip off. The new 79 in auto with 2.8L is going close to $95 on road, and its an uncomfortable prehistoric designed vehicle, so this GR is a bargain, comfortable as you say with up-to-date tech, hopefully its not to intrusive.
Guys, as you're being picked up on, those are a genuine rock slider side steps. Sidesteps are the first item damaged on a std vehicle that all genuine off roaders have to fork out extra dollars to replace with aftermarket rock sliders. It's a big expensive.
Toyota did a great job as they're really well tucked away, but you can still utilise as a step if needed. Awesome work team at Toyota whom designed them.
It's unfortunate that as a spare part they'd cost the earth, as they'd be a great replacement on a std lux.

I sold my 2021 SR5 Hilux and purchased the Gr Sport Hilux after a good test drive over a range of rural driving conditions the you drive rough gravel roads or poor potholed bitumen roads it definitely feels superior to the std SR5 power, braking handling and noise insulation.
And by the way they are well constructed rock sliders which are tucked up for more off road clearance not crap plastic side steps that fold up off road that every one else persists in selling.

This truck achieves a nice balance: work, durability, sportiness, elegant (?), asphalt and crawling prowess. Well there is no asphalt and crawling balance, it excels in both!! Instrumentation is adequate, pleasant; 8/9 inch infotainment with wireless carplay/android auto.

The Hilux is so over-rated and over-priced. So similar to the interior of the Workmate which was out date 5 years ago. Yet they hold their value better than anything on the market.

80k for a truck that's essentially a 20yr old design and they still don't throw in roof rails or a load cover?? Come on.

if this is $80k, imagine what the next gen model will cost 🫤😐

All you did was complain about the side step and interior what about the durability and reliability of Toyota? is that not more crucial than aesthetics? To be honest l would prefer a Toyota badge than a ford badge every day of the week and twice on Sunday. You were a touch negative.

I mean, in terms of features, it is not fancy or modern but that is money saved to be spent on, making sure it is still going kms later. Something that might not be necessary for a JAFA, who should stick to a town car like a ranger.

It’s looks so masculine!! Then you realise it’s still fitted with a 4 cylinder lawn mower engine 😂

Led lights are much more expensive to produce/purchase if damaged. Non led lights in Ute's that get actually get used as Ute's and may be damaged are way more practical.

The thing about hard materials is they don't absorb the sound so they don't get heavier the more sound they're exposed to. Good stuff Toyota engineers.

What a snooze fest. Toyota’s have lagged behind the competition for years but while lemmings still buy them why would they change.

Toyota don’t need to try hard.

People just buy their products
