I liked Azog, but then again I’m a sucker for orc villains. It was cool to see an orc with some semblance of authority, even if he was still a lackey of Sauron

Yeah i was annoyed about that because it took impact away from the goblin king.
Not every creature in middle earth has to follow sauron.

Gandalf Said to Dain as the Goblins appeared, here is Bolg whose father you slew in Moria. Blogs father was Azog although Azog was actually mentioned earlier for killing Thror I think.
