this is very encouraging .. to see a person think way outside the norm of what we have been used to hear from architects... i would love to see more of this and what it has reached now

I just don't understand where all these negative people who post negative comments come from?! Does anybody disagree that we need to build differently?... Like all good ideas ahead of its time, this one deserved pooping on. So far...

I have been starting to lose interest in TEDTalks recently because I feel the quality has gone down, but this guy is great. This was one of the best ted talks I have ever heard, he was funny and informative. More like this please

Eric makes the science part of this understandable to non biologists in a way that allows for new ways of thinking. Biomimicry is certainly a great teacher.

This is gonna take awhile, also how do you incorporate electrical appliances? It would take years to grow these massive things I imagine. Great idea but tons of questions.

great presenter, wonder if Eric Freed gives classes on a living building?

It's a good idea but I have a few questions...
Since it's living and very few living things can live forever. Does that mean it would eventually die?
Would there be a need to look after its health?
Am I looking to deep into this idea of living inside something that's living?
If this becomes reality does that mean we would technically be parasites? Nvm we are already parasites lol

Very difficult task.. It'll require sincere efforts from our governments if this becomes a success coz all the building material and construction companies will be at stake. Btw a healthy step towards a safer earth.. 👍👍

YES!!! we are real Morons when it comes to construction, but we need to build new stock today and this is where we need my innovation.

growing is slow
growing isn't perfectly precise
if you would have the understanding of dna needed for such a complex task you might as well just engineer human sicknesses away

Amazing talk, funny guy, making me feel excited about the future of architecture and design!

he is stating an idea which is practically difficult to achieve, green buildings of course can be promoted but growing a building doesn't seems to be achievable for a civil engineer :(

Some things like construction and AM Radio are decidedly old school and low Tech. On the flip side some Architecture is breath taking, thousands of years ago amazing things were constructed, I can’t help but wonder if stone henge and the Pyramids have organic components.

So basically you could plant a pice of build stem cell and have it grow into a large building and be energy independent and heal itself when broken.

Too bad no mention of Bio-mimicry, upon which all of his talk is based..

There was a global civilization prior to the Clovis event 12, 000 years ago that was already using naturally grown constructions for shelter and transportation. We are just the developmentally disabled ancestors of a much more advanced culture. We nearly went extinct, and the inbreeding in our genetics is still quite prevalent. Maybe in 10, 000 more years humans will reach their previously held potential in sustainable and natural development. Right now there are too many Trump's still alive.
