The ocean is salty, but most lakes and rivers are not. Why is this?

Ocean Chemistry
"The oceans are full of water. Ocean water is not just pure H2O, though. Ocean water has many different chemicals in it, especially salt."

What is Salt in Chemistry
"What exactly do we mean by 'salt' in chemistry? Learn more about the definition, chemical and physical properties and how we can easily figure out the chemical formula of many salts."

Why is the Ocean Salty
"You may know that the oceans cover about 70 percent of the Earth's surface, and that about 97 percent of all water on and in the Earth is saline-there's a lot of salty water on our planet.

real question is why haven't we evolved to drink salt water since salt water is way more abundant?

the ocean is salty because the sand never waves back

There is also quite a lot of gold dissolved in the oceans, because gold forms salts. When I say quite a lot, I mean a million trillion dollars worth. Literally. It's just that nobody has figured out a way to extract it from sea water that doesn't cost more than the gold you get out.

So if you ever wanted an incentive to learn chemistry, there you go.

All these flavours and the ocean chooses to be salty

Take the Dead Sea for example. There are tons of stone made of salt. When it rains (almost never) it brings more salt to the water. But when it evaporates it leaves the salt rock.

The ocean is salty cause we never wave back

My question is: Is the ocean increasing or decreasing in salinity over time? Or is it in a perfect homeostasis? I assume once, billions of years ago, the water was mostly fresh before it broke down the rocks. Wouldn't that mean it's slowing increasing in salinity over time?

Finally a DNews opening that didn't make me question if the information in this video was worth enduring the terrible puns

It's salty because of the tears of misunderstood sharks that just want to cuddle you.

I was hoping that the video tackled the problem which ion makes table salt, salty. Most sources say NaCl, but Na or Cl? Or both?

What is the relation between salinity of the ocean and salinity in our body, our tears are salty, and some other fluids in our body, we need saline nasal drops, normal water just burns the nostril. I believe the reason is we are made on/from this earth with the same chemical composition or something like that?

how do the abiotic aspects of an aquatic ecosystem affect the biotic components? For example, does the concentration of Mg make the water too acidic for different species and the effects of pressure, temperature and volume?

rain is distilled water, but when it falls and runs over land on its way back to the ocean, it dissolves salts from the mineral strata of the earth. These accumulate in the oceans. Once in a while in geologic time a sea dries up, and the salts become crystallized, and covered over with subsequent deposits. So salts get incorporated back into the earth, then uncovered millennia later and redissolved again.

How does fish breath in sea
How the gills help them to breath and what about others like shells... And other crustaceans they don't have gills how do they breath?
And do fish drink the sea water or they do have some purification to reduce the salt from it?
