Wind und Geige - original German lyrics
(Gedicht von Christian Morgenstern)
Drinnen im Saal eine Geige sang,
Sie sang von Liebe, so wild, so lind.
Draußen der Wind durch die Zweige sang:
Was willst du, Menschenkind?
Schon mancher starb an Reu.
Der letzte Geigenton verklang;
Die Fenster wurden bleich und blind;
Aber noch lange sang und sang
Im dunklen Wald der Wind.
Wind & Violin - English translation
(poem by Christian Morgenstern)
Inside the hall, a violin sang,
it sang of love, so wild, so mild.
Outside, the wind sang through the twigs:
'What do you want, human being?'
Inside the hall, the violin sang:
'I want luck, I want luck!'
Outside, the wind sang through the twigs:
'It's the same old song.'
Inside the hall, the violin sang:
'And be it old, for me it's new.'
Outside, the wind sang through the twigs:
'Many a man has died of remorse.'
The last violin note has faded away,
the windows have become sallow and blind.
Yet, for a long time to come,
The wind would sing and sing in the dim woods.
The Faun show at the Axis Club on 722 College St. was well-attended and had a lively audience. Before the show there was a VIP meet and greet event which required a separate ticket.
Faun is a German pagan folk band based near München in Bavaria, southern Germany, whose members are very talented and highly skilled musicians who play a variety of interesting instruments which are unusual up to now in the popular music scene. This includes the bagpipe, hurdy-gurdy, Swedish nyckelharpa, various flutes and stringed-instruments, a variety of percussion instruments, and a modern electronic component. Faun has also worked with Norwegian musicians Einar Selvik and Lindy Fay Hella of Wardruna, multi-instrumentalist Martin Seeberg from Denmark, Katja Moslehner, Rüdiger Maul and Margarethe Eible (Rairda) who has also performed with Poeta Magica.
Former band member, the stunningly beautiful, highly talented vocalist and multi-instrumentalist virtuoso Fiona Frewert (née Rüggeberg) made music history by introducing the bagpipes into modern popular music.
Faun has some very beautiful music videos made by filmmaker Kilian Keuchel.
