My mom was the highest ranked female in the world in 1984 and became a Grandmaster in the year 1992. This is the last game she won in Bern, the tournament where she got her final GM norm. Hope you enjoy! :)

I was a spectator when your mother played in Spijkenisse, the Netherlands in 1988 and 1989. Another female participant was Nana Ioseliani

I mean who doesn’t love Pia? Brilliant chess player, history maker, great commentator and the most charming person!

Both of my parents were great chess players back when I was born 1954. So of course I learned chess at a very early age. Before I became a teenager my parents and other relatives were my only opponents. But life got in the way. No more chess, my peers play checkers.

I'm 70 now. Spend a lot of time perusing YouTube... boring, till I found you! Now I live vicariously thru your chess channel thinking, "I coulda been a contender". Not!

Love your show, this one about your mom?... made me "tear up" with shared joy! Thnx so much, for me, the late inspiration to play chess again... love your break-downs and your street videos. Hope to see more of that bushy haired kid, Jerry as he progresses. SUBSCRIBED of course!

The old photos of Pia show a determined young woman. The mom we've got to know as the kindest person ever, what a badass!
A truly inspirational woman. ❤

Pia, go!!! I love your walkthroughs; it would be great to see more of them on your channel. The fact that it’s your mom’s norm just makes it all the more compelling and fun to watch.

Pia go! Loved this history and the game that won it all! Your channel is such a joy for me to watch, haven't played chess in years and your enthusiasm is infectious!

Your mum is a great player. I’m now 68 and don’t play tournaments however my tutor was a famous Scottish woman player called Nancy Elder. She was playing chess and setting the bar for many future women players. Nancy was really a good player and a friend. A forerunner of women’s chess especially in Scotland and the UK. I wonder if your mum ever met or played against Nancy Elder?

Looking at a very proud daughter. And rightly so.

Pia’s live commentary of Anna’s tournament games is the best content on this channel and some of the best chess content on YouTube, full stop.

Pia Go! I very much enjoyed seeing the history of your mom on the road to being a grandmaster. Also, I smiled too seeing her playing style of just going for it. Thanks for sharing about your family.

I love how excited that you get when detailing your mother's accomplishment. I know that she is proud of you from her commentary on your matches but I am sure that your pride in her warms her heart immensely.

Watched all three of them. Enjoyed doing so. Just like watching Anna now return the love, for all the hard work her mother does for her channel. Pia makes them a blast to watch.

One endearing thing about your mum. When she was commentating on you recent tournament live stream she was just so excited for you and the games. Best totally biased commentary ever and rightfully so ❤️❤️

Pia go!
Such an amazing accomplishment and story. Gives us some context to go with her legend. Thanks for sharing. Can't reach that level without passion, and that's the one thing we ALL knew about Pia ... the passion. It can't be taught.

You clearly are so proud of your mom Anna as your mom should be of you. I followed many of her games in the Sahovsky Informator, some years ago... You 2 (and actually your dad too) are very charming. Love your whole family.
