This was extremely helpful for me on a recent project, and thanks for providing code to reference and tinker with!
I had to do something slightly different, where I had to have a an on hover zoom while still maintaining the original larger image behind a small box with the zoomed view. It was only a few more steps (nest the image within the target, hide overflow).
