US Release Date: June 13, 2025
Starring: Gerard Butler, Mason Thames, Nick Frost, Nico Parker
Director: Dean DeBlois
Synopsis: On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup (Mason Thames; The Black Phone, For All Mankind) stands apart. The inventive yet overlooked son of Chief Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler, reprising his voice role from the animated franchise), Hiccup defies centuries of tradition when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon. Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons, challenging the very foundations of Viking society. With the fierce and ambitious Astrid (BAFTA nominee Nico Parker; Dumbo, The Last of Us) and the village's quirky blacksmith Gobber (Nick Frost; Snow White and the Huntsman, Shaun of the Dead) by his side, Hiccup confronts a world torn by fear and misunderstanding. As an ancient threat emerges, endangering both Vikings and dragons, Hiccup's friendship with Toothless becomes the key to forging a new future. Together, they must navigate the delicate path toward peace, soaring beyond the boundaries of their worlds and redefining what it means to be a hero and a leader.

When it's so similar to the animated version they're not afraid to show the whole plot lol. In all seriousness I'm excited for this movie

This looks amazing, HTTYD was the biggest part of my childhood and still is a big part of my life today. I'm not exaggerating when I say I started crying when I watched this trailer ❤

Early reviews say it's by far the best live action remake and that it's amazing.

Making a basically CGI remake of a CGI animated movie is crazy

Why do they need a live action version of this movie? Animated was great. This looks to be a shot for shot remake. I don't see the point.

Turning animated favourites into live-action features seems to be the lazy new thing to go with endless remakes & sequels. There's so little originality in major studio productions anymore.

Glad to see the original director returning. In his hands, I believe this has a chance.

It's as simple as this: Know your audience
Are you making this movie for yourself, for the fans, or for DEI? Look at Sonic and how well it is doing because they respect their fan base. Fans care about the source material over the contrived motives or reality. Sonic is a fantasy character, let that sink in.

this is basically just as the Animated Movie is. Disney should take note to this. 😅

It sucks that the director tried to get an original story made but all Hollywood is willing to invest in is remakes and sequels :(

I’m so excited to watch…the animated version again.
The physicality looks so off compared to the animation. For the best example, look at the bit at the end. In the animation, it looked like Tuffnut got his by a truck at full speed when the little dragon attacked him, adding to the comedic value. Here, it looks like the actor is slowly pretending to be hit by something that isn’t there, or maybe a soft pillow. It doesn’t work, and immediately pulls me out of immersion. There were several moments like that in the trailer. Plus the acting doesn’t seem as good. Like when Hiccup is deciding whether to free Toothless or not. The emotional nuances on his face aren’t there, and when he says “I am a Viking!” He’s supposed to sound like he’s trying to convince himself just as much as he’s trying to convince Toothless. But here, it doesn’t sound like he’s trying to convince anyone, and is just yelling it.

I, always worry when it’s a live action it’s often changed and is nothing like the original but they have kept everything the same. Dreamworks how to train your dragon has always been something I’ve loved growing up. ❤ so excited for it. 😊😊
