It may come as a shock to many that I've had very little experience with Breville espresso machines, but that all changed since they sent me their newest flagship in the popular Oracle line. The Oracle Jet is focused on speed and ease of use, utilizing their new Thermojet heating system and a ton of automation from grinding to steaming.

I have an Oracle Touch, which came out a few years earlier, but is very similar. I found that hand tamping after the tamp fan gave me more consistent results. I think you nailed the audience for this and I fall smack into it. I love my coffee and have a half dozen plus options for pour over, syphon, and drip, but I don’t want to go completely down the espresso rabbit hole. This gives me good results with minimal effort and it lets me feel like part of the process, which is much more satisfying than any super-automatics I’ve tried.

This machine is what 99.99% of people who like good coffee want. It's just very expensive.

Have owned the jet for about a month now.

Sure, I’d like a bit more manual control. But my partner, who has absolutely no interest in learning how/ spending the time make a latte with a normal semi auto, can now make a latte that tastes much better than anything from a superautomatic. I was looking at those, too, with a newborn to take care of - to me, this is a great (although expensive) balance for those who are considering a superauto for its convenience, but want the taste of a real espresso shot. Someday I might get a decent - but for my life right now, no regrets here.

FWIW, my dose is consistent at 22g into an 18g IMS basket, and I haven’t had any issues with the basket being overfilled

Fun, informative and nicely done, beautiful back ground and lighting of the espresso equipment behind you.

The Oracle Touch was my first espresso machine back then. I think it's good and amusing that you openly address all the little problems with the Jet that the Oracle Touch already had. I ended up with a 3D-printed single-dose hopper and completely removed the tamper fan to be able to dose lower than 19g. Nevertheless, it always annoyed me a bit to have to modify half the machine for this. When I finally read dozens of reports about leaking hoses inside due to cheap materials, I panicked at some point and quickly sold it. Today, I wouldn't buy any more Breville/Sage products. Good review!

Used my breville barista express for 6, 5 years, averaging 6-7 shots everyday. I had an issue with the pump after 2, 5 years of usage (was my fault using tap water) changed the solenoid valve for 60$ and upgraded to RO and had no issues since then. Now using decent with RO and experiencing no issues. Water is a king.

It's great that you reviewed the newest Breville. Many people need to know its strengths and weaknesses, which you "flushed" out thoroughly. I wouldn't buy a Breville but, if I did, I'd keep it simple and get a Breville Bambino Plus and then save for money for a more premium machine. For me, the Olympia Cremina reigns supreme.

Having owned a oracle touch for 3 years, your video seems to me right on point. Aside from the daily cup of ok espresso, there is nothing to look forward to using it in the morning anymore

I think its great to have this option, especially if the result of the cup is good. I see this for people who want a simple workflow and aren't going to, or want to, nerd out about making espresso and spend a ton of time researching grinders and portafilter baskets and boilers vs thermoblock pros and cons. The spouse acceptance factor with this machine is going to be high.

I have Sage Oracle V2 (UK version 220V) for the last 4 years, had grinder issue last month, it was way out of warranty but Sage sent me new grinder burrs free of charge, replacing them was very easy, all good now, I like Oracle better than Oracle Touch, more control and tweaking, great coffee, love it.

I have owned my Oracle Touch for three years now and aside from a pressure leak that I had fixed under warranty it has never failed in those three years. I find it to be very easy to use with little to no prior knowledge about extracting espresso, and once you have owned one for a while it gets easier and easier to get your parameters dialled in to your taste and liking even when changing between different types of beans/roasts regularly. As you rightly say this is not a machine for everyone so no good for those who just want a fully automated brew, and no good for those who want to really dive into the fine tuning of every aspect of coffee extraction, but great for those who want a really nice tasting coffee with a minimum amount of time and effort to make it. I have never tried the Oracle Jet but the Oracle Touch has a fantastic automated or manual milk steamer in my opinion, and with plenty of opportunity to get the milk just the way you want it through the temperature and froth settings. Maybe this is one area where the Oracle Jet might have seen some compromises?

Dimanche je fais un rôti au pesto avec un pot déjà prêt par manque de temps, mais je garde cette recette pour un dimanche prochain tellement c’est magnifique.🤤

I have had my breville barista express for over 7 years now.

It’s been a great machine for me, I used the inbuilt grinder for 5 of those years before buying a niche zero.

I have had it fully serviced once by breville at about 4 years in and I am sending it off for a second full service right now, before gifting it to my best friend.

I replaced the my barista express of 7 years, with my dad’s barista express that’s only 4 years old bc he bought a new more top of the line one.

I love mine. It’s been reliable and a work horse, with minimal maintenance from me. Cleaning the protafilter once a month and vinegar cycling every 6 months. I do used filtered water. But it’s been making anywhere from 2-5 shots a day for over 7 years now.

Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on the new Ninja Luxe Cafe

Thank you for your opinion as I deeply respect that!! I have been pulling espresso shots since 1995.
My Delonghi died after 18 years and purchased Bambino Plus to replace my old one. After my husband’s stroke I had to find an answer to the long prep time of single dosing. I bought the Touch Impress it just couldn’t pull a good shot because the PID could not keep a steady temp long enough to pull only sour shots. They replaced the Touch Impress with a new one this month and its temp is better but PID again, pulling shots at 155-170 after 3 blank shots.
I want to trade up for the Jet as they are using a new more consistent PID at the group head and for the water. Not mentioned is the very attractive WIFI to get software updates right at home that have already fixed issues with the Jet and no need to pack up the machine and send it in.

Glad to see someone who reviewed this gave some detail on the auto-grind, auto-tamp feature. My thoughts about them got validated.

My experience with Breville (and De'Longhi), in general and with many kitchen devices not just espresso machines, is that they average 5 years of daily use. When something goes wrong, it is catastrophic, and the machine needs to be replaced. If you get a Bambino on a Black Friday sale and pull six shots a day with it for 5 years, you got your money worth though. With an Oracle, maybe not so much.

But until someone else gives me 3 second warmups, I am stuck with having at least one in my kitchen! Though I typically use the Flair 58 for myself and the Bambino Plus as a steam wand. My wife is a little more sporadic with coffee. Might want a cortado today at 3 and tomorrow at 5. The only way to play for that with a boiler is to turn it on in the morning and off at night, lol.

Use cases, you know.

I think this is a cool product for people who want to make really good coffee but don’t necessarily want to go as deep into the rabbit hole as most of us watching this video are. I can think of a lot of friends who would love something like this. Me personally, I enjoy the process, so not looking for automation.
