Are POLITICS changing FINLAND?

Things have been very interesting politically speaking - across the planet. When I first moved to Finland, it seemed to me that most people didn't care to speak about are be involved in politics at all. I remember being very shocked at how nonchalant Finns were to politics. All of this has changed over the last 2/3 years. Politics around the world are more polarised than ever. Well, that seems to be happening here too.
I don't quite know exactly how the government works, but I'm trying to educate myself - since I live here.
Although I am meandering a bit in this video, I attempt to be as open as possible. I'm not so much giving an opinion as I am making an observation.
Let me know what some of your thoughts are!

Great takes. I think most Finnish people feel how you think. But sadly all we hear is the loud minorities on the left/right. Nothing from the majority who are mostly somewhere in the middle. And thank you for separation immigrants from refugees, I feel this is important because most people have no problem with "normal" immigrants, but have a problem with taking in too many refugees as seen in Sweden

I've seen a lot of immigrants that don't respect rules and authority and have no aspirations to be anything but a leech living off benefits. The issue is how our system enables that. I think they need to be taken off benefits and if they still don't get a job and turn to crime they ought to be kicked out, sorry not sorry.
I have nothing against people who wish to get a job, be it as a cleaner or an engineer. In fact I have been helping a Ukrainian refugee integrate into my workplace and help him outside the job when he's looking for a house or a car etc. Great dude tries his best to do a good job at work.

I don't like to follow the discussion on social media (x) because it's really black and white. I do think that when someone is in the country we have to treat them just like anyone else. If you commit crime, then you're out (this is the very small minority of immigrants, obviously). On work visa there needs to be some limits on minimum income to prevent a kind of "lower class" of people from emerging. Other than these small points, I don't really mind even if we got multiple times more immigrants than today. After all immigration overall can be very good for a country.

The most important thing that many people don't understand who are coming from outside of Europe is... Finland is a nationstate. The sole purpose of founding the nation was to protect finnish people and finnish tribes from outside threats. That was the state of affairs until early 2000s, when there was a rapid change in politics and in media, and the idea of multiculturalism was implemented. I was born in 1984. The first time I saw a black man walking on the street was when I was like 10 years old, and I thought he must be an american basketball player coming to our basketball club. I lived in 9th biggest city of Finland. Things are changing way too fast.

Good observations. I think the problem is that immigration has been an issue that finnish politicians and media has refused to talk about for so long it has given a voice for these far-right parties. Because people are seeing it in their every day lives with cities becoming less safe.

Nah, just over reacting - Finnish parties are extremely close in majority of the topic compared to most other countries. Our finances are terrible, we need to address that and there of course the left and right have a different view. Racism should not be allowed, but at the same time, we only need to accept immigration that is beneficial to the country - not these middle eastern people that come to retire with our benefits and increase the crime statistics - this needs to be addressed as well.

Riikka Purra is the finance minister.

The time line that was proposed for people with work visa to get re-employed was 6 months. Don't want to nit pick but I think 3 vs 6 paints completely different picture.
About Riikka Purra I would guess the reason she did not come out right out of the gate is that if you apologize it's seen as sign of weakness by your opponent and they would just keep pushing where there is a crack in your armor. The media is very aggressive with this behavior.

i only heard about one party of Finland called the fins and that they are quite radical extremists. i have no idea about what is happening in finland tbh. but i heard they are very welcoming of foreigners and they want to increase the immigration. but in terms of changing politics i think the role of previous government was to just join nato and thats it. the previous prime minister was making scandals in the news worldwide when she went to parties and doing drugs on these parties and cheating on her husband who she divorced because of her party lifestyle and she vent viral from this and how finnish people are tolerant to such behavior not just of politicians but of regular finish people who tolerate their married partners to go out and party with others people of the opposite gender. its normal behavior there. people abroad were scratching their head about what is happening in finland.

A comment to the end interview: we live in FINLAND. The politicians here are FINNISH politicians. We have a LOT of already unemployed people here in Finland. The bias of the right here has ALWAYS been: immigration IS good, IF, they are HIGHLY educated people that we NEED. People WILL get a job here, but ONLY if we the FINNISH people here in FINLAND need them.

I dont expect when moving to mexico, that the mexican governments #1 priority is to take care of me. Nor if i would move to a middle-eastern country or any other country, that their priority would be to take care of me. I expect that their priority is to take care of their people, the people that they represent.

This 3-month rule has been in Sweden for ages. Interesting that this is new in Finland.

Thank you for a very balanced video! Actually it is people from left, right and center of the political spectrum who do not approve racist comments (not only the left). Personally I do not care how old the comments are, anybody who has said publicly that they wished they had a gun to kill another person is seriously deeply disturbed and should not be given a powerful position in the society. It is not about being left or right or racist, it is about basic decency and healthy approach to fellow citizens.

"Calling the other side wanting open borders" well given that the left here in Finland does not really deny any of that... yeah

War is a big factor on how the views changed here. When it comes to national security, respecting borders and safeguarding your OWN people, like it or not but right wing wins by a landslide. There is no room for flowers and hand holding when an aggressive bloodthirsty neighbor starts remembering their "imperial golden years". War also changed the economic landscape, and reminded us of how important it is for us to be as energy independant as possible, which means prioritizing your own country instead of trying to act as a pioneer of green energy and thus driving your economy down the drain.
Left-winging is all fine and dandy until shit hits the fan.

Thanks for your video, Chico Muya.
It was good take on the matter. I am not leftist, more mildly right.
I think there was one factor missing and that was War.
Europeans are leaning towards right wing because of fear.
Fear is mainly economical one and not immigrant related.
I think this goverment is quite a downgrade from previous one.
But hey, that's democracy, we are not russians.
Take care and glory to the heroes. 🌻
