Akron’s Tent Community And The Fight To Save It

Case Update:
Today, September 13th, 2022, the Ohio Supreme Court declined to review a lower court’s dismissal of a lawsuit brought by an Akron homeless charity against the city for rejecting its plan to allow the homeless to set up a handful of tents behind private commercial property during a life-threatening emergency. The Homeless Charity and its founder Sage Lewis, represented by IJ, will now consider appealing the case to the United States Supreme Court.

And I bet in this Ohio American heartland many of these city council members describe themselves as "Christians", but not when they are in the council chambers, only at church on Sundays. What a bunch of cruel hypocrites.

I need to say to the workers at the homeless tent community and village, great work in finding a solution to try and help people. Keep fighting.

i would something like this on a much larger scale if I could, probably out in the middle of nowhere or a large tract of land. i would invite all services to come and help and would like to make the new small city be self sufficient in all ways.

UPDATE: As of June of 2022, the Akron tent community has been closed!
After investigators found numerous fire, health, electrical, and other hazards, as well as discovering several human sex trafficking victims, the police were brought in to shut down the operation.
A number of wanted fugitives were also discovered, and arrested.
