They gave me 29, 000 to start and I didn’t know there was a conflict between the landlord and the two owners anyway one of the owners was bought out and the landlord came in and became a new owner of the project and of course was still owner of the property, and they decided not to pay me for some strange reason other than they thought I would walk away. After going through all the proper legal channels, I decided this is my last opportunity so I went in there one night as a customer and I fell off one of the chairs at the bar Claims I injured my back and proceeded to sue them for $125, 000.03 years later I received the settlement of $44, 000. Sometimes you just have to get as dirty as the people who won’t pay you.

In situations like this you did the right thing, get others involved in the situation. You start with the paperwork that customer signed and then you get the store or manufacturer involved to help you solve the problem. I agree with your decision.

Probably worth including in that contract a schedule of materials on specific items, with photographs or RAL colours so they can't pull any bullshit like this

In Florida Contractors file a Notice To Owner (and bank) that ensures they get paid. If not, they can sue to own the property.

Nowadays we have phones that can videotape every transaction to protect both sides. Make sure you tell them about plans to video before you waste time with planning, in case they know they’re going to scam you.

Just curious, did you show them a live sample? Sometimes a picture and the real product can vary. Also, dye lots can vary.

Sometimes the brochure image looks so different to the real one. This is why you show the slab or material in person. I suspect they didn’t believe it was the same one as many contractors take in inferior materials and deceive clients. Glad you had it all documented and proved the materials were indeed as requested.

Recently got screwed by a client. Out 2300 smackaroonies. Pending charge back. The client said I delivered no materials and provided no labour. Waiting on a final decision back from the bank. While I feel pretty confident in my contract and my documentation of work completed it still has me feeling uneasy. It's disheartening to know that people will let you complete work for them and smile in your face and then attempt to completely screw you over after thanking you for a job well done

It's likely that the customer genuinely thought you were ripping them off; so it's great you had the contract as evidence. How we perceive the world can be shockingly very different to everyone else which is why communication and exchange of information goes a long way to resolving conflicts.
