My favorite method for track cleaning is to clean the track the same time that I clean my lcoos.
Everything just goes on the top rack of the dishwasher and I run it on the pots and pans cycle.
It cleans my locos, decoders and track really well.

Great video, Brian! There are many methods to cleaning, but abrasives and alcohol have different negative short-term and long-term effects, so Mineral Spirits and a non threaded cloth are the best. As stated by Ron and others, NOOX will mess with the effectiveness of traction tires (makes them slippery). I use a "rail conditioner" which rubs on as a cleaner and evaporates, so it doesn't bother traction tires. Not an issue either way. Cheers!

Brian, Broadway Limited motive power has had an issue with power pickup for some time although I've heard they "may" have rectified that recently. What the problem is that the copper pickup strips that are embedded in the trucks have holes for the wheel axles to go through. Other manufacturers have cups but the Broadway Limited has cups with holes. In order to get better pickup I've taken the trucks apart, cleaned those pickup strips with alcohol (or whatever you like) and then put some "conductive lube" along each of the strips and into the holes. I believe Atlas makes conductive lube. I've tried conductive grease but it didn't work however the conductive oil did.

Reassemble and it makes a GIGANTIC difference. Although, if you aren't running your trains very often you may have to repeat.

Ron was careful to warn that the No-Ox is problematic for locos with traction tires. Every steamer I have (5 locos and 4 brands) has traction tires, so if I watched your vid and didn't know better, I could end up with several sets of traction tires needing replacing. The company claims that applying the paste sparingly to the track, waiting for it to sit, and then wiping off any excess, before running anything with traction tires, is OK, but I think each modeler needs to be their own judge of that. And anyone with grades needs to consider the lubricating properties of the stuff.

I’m fairly new to model railroading and I came across CRC2-26 electrical lubricant and I used it on some old n scale track that I picked up used on line...( not gonna advertise the site). Well long story short... it works great! Give it a try and tell me what you think.

That’s great that it doesn’t have any issues. You got flack for using alcohol? I use alcohol wipes, however I have the No-Ox ID just need mineral spirits, can’t wait to try it.

Hi Brian. I just ran across this video today. I'm interested in your No-Ox experience after 2 years. I did need to clean my track after 2 years and reapply the No-Ox, but my basement is pretty dusty and I hadn't run trains in months when I did. I'm still sold on the No-Ox after 3 years.

Awesome intro and great video Brian. Burnishing the track is a good idea for repairing minor scratches. Brian before anybody else picks up on it you should quickly market the no ox and mineral spirits as a hair removal combo, it's taken the wiskers clean off your face 🤣. Happy Memorial day!

I've always been leery of putting anything greasy or oily on track. I wonder if there is anyone that has been using something like that for 10 or more years that could let us know their experience.
