I'm a jet fin, stiff blade (Apeks RK3) diver and surpised to learn divers either love splits or hate them. Like any gear my club mates chose, it's personal preference so you respect it.

I like my scubapro split fins for shore dives or warm water dives with light equipment . I like large fairly stiff fins for most dives

You're right! When I had my first dives in the open water, my instructor was waiting me in the sea on surface, and I was getting ready on the boat and the crew brought me full-heal fins, I felt they were so so light while swimming, after I ended my dive, while coming up to the boat, I started to have severe cramps in my leg and foot.

Haven't tried splits but I heard its not so good with fighting current, and I don't want to bring multiple fins on my dive trips and theres always chances of current. My full foot scubapro seawing nova is actually a lot stiffer and more powerful then the openheel version, though this is probably unusual for a manufacturer to go this strategy.

I've got both split (Atomics) and std fins and the std fins are collecting dust. I don't have issues with frog style using the Atomics. That being said - I also had Scubapro Twin Jets (Split) and they were ultra crap. Way too soft. So I don't think that there's a rule of thumb.

I use my RK3s to dive singles and Scuba pro jet fins for twinset. The weight difference helps my trim.

I usually dive in apeks RK3 which are nice
I switched to my buddies split fins during an equipment exchange and could barely move!
Really nice and easy to kick tho

Former IDC STAFF INSTRUCTOR with 4000 + dives and I love my split fins. People should choose the fin depending on what they want to do underwater. If you have strong legs you may overpower these fins so you may want to look for other options. I advise individuals to borrow different fins and try them out before purchasing them.

I like my mares raptors split fins for my fairly shallow freshwater diving. But most I dive with use the super flexable mares fins.

Using Scubapro Twinjets. If they are good enough for frogmen, who am I to think differently.

Have been using atomic split fins since 2016. I think they are good but not in fighting current.

I love my Atomic splits.... nothing but warm water diving. 65 now and they take the stress off my old, skinny legs.

What do you think of fins with channels?

I have split fins (Atomic Smoke on the Water) and paddle fins (Mares Avanti Quattro +) and love them both. Much of the crap you see posted criticizing split fins is pure BS for most recreational diving scenarios. The only area where I’d not use them is in tight confined spaces as they are big and not as precise as the Paddles (though plenty precise enough for reef diving).

In open water/on reefs, the splits work great. In fact, in crossing currents in Rangiroa I fared better than most with paddles.

We joke a lot about split fins at scuba divers uncensored group 🤣

I once saw a diver cut his fins in the middle on purpose to immitate the real ones, since then I hated split fins.🤣🤣
