In my opinion having a deep seated pride in your country is at the top of the list for me if I were to join the British armed forces. The way this country has been abused by successive governments over the past 60 years has just enforced younger generations to have a lot less loyalty to King and country and more to self preservation and looking after their own.

A country that has a government that enables not only legal migration on a massive scale but also supports the illegal and unchecked immigration from France to the extent of allowing them to apply for asylum, something they have zero right to under law.

As I am an old fart now in my mid 60's I can see why most youngster do not want to end up as cannon fodder on a battlefield in Europe or the Far East with run down equipment and Rupert's and higher Commanders with fock all understanding of actual combat.

This country is no longer British and the once proud Bulldog has been neutered by a corrupt and loathsome generational parasitic government establishment, in my opinion.

I weep for what this country has lost over the decades because of these political parasites.

My grandparents came here in the windrush. I love king/country, but in current times the UK is on its way to be a 2nd world country and it's because of 2 tier Kier. My patriotism is at rock bottom even to the point I want to leave yet alone serve in the military

I served in the British Army for 24 years, joined at 16 as a storeman, driving HGV 5 months after my 17th birthday, transferred to the AAC along the way and finished as a WO1 after 16 years of flying and teaching, and then flew for the police for 13 years. Not bad for a council house kid. Get in there, work hard, make something of yourself while serving your country.

War is a racket. And all the trauma you encounter will follow you for the rest of your life.

I watched a lot of people die on my last deployment and now I am going to therapy to help me be able to sleep at night. I wish I didn't choose the life of a soldier.

If you have to go to trade school or work on a cruise ship for a year until you get enough money to go to community college for nursing or something and or join a trade school. Please consider this route instead.

As a job, it’s hard to beat.. all the things you listed.. But, it isn’t just about that today.. and as many others have said it just isn’t worth it anymore.. this government would piss on any of us if we were on fire..
defending our countries shores is o e thing.. going overseas to Ukraine to fight a war that the west is responsible for.. not a chance..

The world has been turned upside down and inside out. I've known people that say they went to war under false pretenses and threw their badge's away, I've known those that have served that struggle with PTSD whilst they are ignored and left to fend for themselves, I've met homeless veterans that need serious help and get nothing. Just my own opinion but it isn't worth joining the armed forces, you don't know the reasons why you'll be asked to engage in combat with another country but rest assured that the people who sent you to war enjoy a big salary and an equally large house. From those I've spoken to there's nothing fantastic about war and there's nothing great about risking your life for a small minority of people who don't care about you to start with.

I wouldn’t want a child of mine joining armed forces. Not just because of government - imo they are not well supported during or after with regards to mental health and there should be more transparency with their policing (Jaysley?? How can that happen?). Perhaps the added funds announced today will be spent well and changes made that will entice our youth but I am not very hopeful and don’t think I am the only mother in the country who would discourage my children.

Joining the British Army was once an adventure for young patriotic men and women. The modern generation are largely apathetic and even averse to wearing their nations uniform. We need a Government that will instill pride in the nation in order to get a recruitment drive, and thats never happening under the current Govermnet.
