Next step reverse-i search (ctrl + r by default) with fuzzy finding (fzf for example), saves a tone more time :)

Ctrl+r and typing a string appearing in that command will reverse search through the history. If there are multiple hits hitting ctrl+r again and again after entering the string will go through all the findings

David thank you so much for providing these tutorials. They’ve continued to empower my skills as a lone sysadmin.

You can run !! in bash to run previous command. For example:
If you forgot to type sudo before apt install cmatrix, run sudo !! can fix it.

You can also do !! for last command or !-n for n previous. Helpful for making macros.

You can also redirect history to a (.txt) file. "history 1>file.txt"
You can also delete history so if you accidentally type your password instead of a command.

Try ctrl+r and begin typing the 1st letters of the command and it will start matching against the history.

Great time saver for when you need to find that one command you typed in an hour ago. Thanks!

!! Let's you run the last command you executed. Extremely helpful when you forget to type sudo for a command. You can just type sudo !!

You can also use negative numbers to select from the list backwards
! -1
Will run the latest command
!-2 will tun the one before the latest and so on 😉

Ctrl+R is easier because it lets you search the history and run the previous command in one line.
