Matilde's Journey at the Paley Institute | Overcoming CFD and Fibular Hemimelia

Matilde, a 19-year-old from Verona, Italy, has shown incredible resilience in her journey with right congenital femoral deficiency and fibular hemimelia. After three unsuccessful surgeries in Italy, Matilde’s family found Dr. Paley, who first met her in Sheffield, England when she was just 6 years old. Since then, Matilde has traveled to West Palm Beach for treatment and has undergone 11 surgeries with Dr. Paley, including tibia and femur lengthening, SUPERankle, SUPERknee, guided growth, and hamstring release. She has gained an amazing 16 centimeters in length and now proudly stands tall with both feet on the ground.

Matilde’s passion for life is unstoppable—she loves running, swimming, and skateboarding around her campus at Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele in Milan, where she is studying to become a medical doctor. Her dream is to become a pediatric surgeon to help children and improve their quality of life.
