Groot is a Flora colossus, a species of plant-like beings that live on Planet X, the capital of the branch worlds. He was exiled from his planet for killing another sapling and freeing a human subject from the cruel experiments of the Arbor Masters. He then wandered the galaxy, where he met Rocket Raccoon and joined the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Groot has many amazing abilities that make him a formidable ally. He can manipulate his own cellular structure and the surrounding vegetation, allowing him to stretch, bend, and reshape his body into various forms and sizes. He can also control other plants and trees, creating weapons, traps, or allies out of them. He can heal himself and others by using his sap or wood, and he can even transfer his life force to revive dead or dying plants or animals. He is also super strong and durable, able to lift and withstand enormous amounts of weight and force.

Is this canon? I thought Groot was the sole survivor of his people after Thanos destroyed it. He was enslaved and met Rocket during his captivity. He is the last of his kind.
