Phrasal verbs are very common in English. They are made up of a verb and adverb or preposition or, sometimes, a verb plus adverb and preposition. Phrasal verbs often have meanings that we cannot easily guess from their individual parts.

For example, call off
call off means to cancel something that has been planned.
I've called off the meeting means I canceled the meeting.

There are two main types of phrasal verbs: separable and inseparable.
Separable phrasal verbs can be apart or together.
Can you switch off the TV?
Can you switch the TV off?
If the object is a pronoun, it must go between the verb and preposition:
Can you switch it off?

Inseparable phrasal verbs cannot be separated by other words.
I always run into Kate at the supermarket.
The object must come at the end because the verb and the preposition must stay together.

In this video, you will learn thirty phrasal verbs that you can use in conversation.
