The Highest Samādhi

How much do we have to practise to attain samādhi? How much effort is required to be free of psychological pain and to find happiness?

Rupert says: ‘If you’re practising in order to find or have an experience that is not present now, even if you find it in the future, it will leave you. Anything you find as a result of your practice, however marvellous it is, will leave you.

‘Ramana Maharshi said the highest samādhi is “I am”. He also said: “Don’t meditate, just be.” And how hard do you have to try to just be? Being is the only experience you will ever have that does not require effort. Remember the Ashtavakra Gita: “Happiness belongs to that supremely lazy person for whom even blinking is too much trouble.”’

I've never forgotten my experiences with God, I don't need belief or faith, I have my experience.

After the long-winded, meandering, stream of thought, "question" by the questioner, I liked how Rupert gets straight to the point by asking, "Why do you practice?".
The questioner suddenly realizes for a brief moment that he has to focus on the fundamentals and cannot keep escaping in words and activities.

A very profound statement, ".... if you're if you're practicing in order to find or have an experience that is not present now even if you find that in three months or three three years time it will leave you..."

If you are not getting the „I am” thing, it is ok. You might need to burn some seeking energy before you are ready to allow yourself this level of simplicity. At least this was my experience.

Silence is the highest teaching and our seeking momentum might need to wind down before we can let it just be. Seriously, go do some practice that makes sense to you right now. Your inner guru knows the way. No need to force yourself to understand pointers that don’t speak to you at the moment.

Laziness and not wanting anything definitely is the key 🥰

Rupert essentially guided the questioner out of his mental narrative .. into his beingness.

In that beingness everything is effortlessly unfolding itself ..

I like to call this “relaxing into your nature.” And it’s available to you on demand. 🙏

This was a really good one by Rupert. It’s like he just let this guy [mind] run itself out a bit and settle him into his being. A beautiful quiet teaching.
