Fun fact: running was invented by accident in 1835, by Thomas Running, when he tried to walk twice at the same time.

Friendly disagreement on working up speed. Practicing at a tempo you cannot play at is likely to enforce poor technique in the name of speed.

Dude haven’t seen you in a while but seeing your physical transformation is AWESOME to see. You’re starting to look jacked man and it’s so cool. Full credit to you and your obvious hard work dude 💪

#2 is 100% accurate

back in my drumline days, when we had a new part that was just a little faster than most of us were comfortable with, our tech would bump up the tempo. when we were forced to play even faster, there were obviously plenty of mistakes. but then when we dropped the tempo back to the original, it was 10x cleaner then when we had previously tried.

the higher tempo forces you to twitch the muscles faster (we would talk a lot about fine motor controls and using “twitch muscles”). after trying to play something at a noticeably faster tempo for a while, your muscles are better prepared to play the part cleanly at the written tempo.

i’ve seen people in the comment section disagreeing with this practice, and my only thought is they must not be musicians or they haven’t tried it. because it 100% works and i’ve witnessed world class drummers (and other musicians I’m sure) teach this method whole heartedly. (and those lessons always yielded positive results).
so don’t listen to any of these people saying that it teaches bad technique. you learn technique first, then you apply it. technique is always a concern and something to monitor. but you have to allow yourself to play sloppily sometimes in order to get better at other aspects of the music (aka the tempo).

Can you tell us how we can improve our rhythm and timing? With metronome it's hard to understand the rhythm with just click sounds.
