Under the guise of the terrible brutalities of World War I, over a million Armenians, Assyrians, and Greeks were systematically massacred, dispossessed and deported in Ottoman Turkey. Historian David Gaunt considers the tactics used by Turkish authorities to frighten and turn against one another the many non-Muslim minorities in the Empire, and the ensuing policy of denial that continues to be institutionalized in Turkey to this day.

Dr. David Gaunt is Professor Emeritus of History at the Center for Baltic and East European Studies at Södertörn University in Stockholm, Sweden. He is a member of the European Academy and has written extensively on Swedish social history, with a focus on the family and working conditions. For the past three decades, Dr. Gaunt’s research has centered on international questions of violence towards minorities. Has published several edited volumes on violence against Jews in Eastern Europe and has published books and articles on Armenians, Kurds and Assyrians in Eastern Anatolia and Mesopotamia.

This was professionally done. But why short? It should be a long historical interview, an hour or so, where he gives the one and only lesson needed about the Assyrian genocide.
