Visiting supermarkets in another country is always a fun experience and a nice way to get to know the culture a little bit. The supermarkets in the Netherlands are no different! Dutch supermarkets are quite different from American ones, and I show you some of the differences I've seen in this video—like what kind of Dutch foods you can expect to see a lot of!

I can tell you, Walmart shocked me as a Dutch person, who knew that many cereal brands existed? Supermarkets in another country are always fun.

It's cute that you think a very basic selection of cheeses is a wide variety.

I heard someone being shocked about magazines being sold in supermarkets too. But like the Sushi bar, I must say that you don't see them that often. Someone also really liked the mixed bags of vegetables. They are basically a styled mix of vegetables for a stir fry. Chinese, Thai, Japanese. Soup vegetables are a classic. Small cut veggies you would typically put in a soup. I agree that they are super handy.

The stuff may be questionable but it's still way better than the sh*t you find in an us store. Most of the stuff is forbidden in europe.

You should try *Brinta* some time.
THE Dutch cereal.
Many Dutch folks eat Brinta every day, and believe no American cereal can compete to Brinta.

For anyone who doesn't know why we don't refrigerate our eggs, it's because we vaccinate our chickens, so we don't need to wash and refrigerate our eggs like in North America.

Americans aren't used to fresh unprocessed food.

Licorice gross?!?!?!?!
I’m serious here. Don’t try just one or two of those and draw the conclusion that you don’t like licorice. There are so many different flavors. Very sweet ones, extremely salty ones, soft ones, hard ones….
When it comes to licorice, I don’t like most of them, but there’s a handful of different flavors that I absolutely LOVE!!!

I don’t like candy, but I make an exception for just a tiny handful of different types of licorice and, of course, chocolate. GOOD chocolate. 🥴

"I find most of these questionable"
uhmm... I mean you don't HAVE to put them on bread...
most of them are just Nutella but if nutella was an egg salad.

Thats not a Sushi bar any more than a big mac is meat on bread... its a "sushi like stuff" shelf. call that sushi near a sushi chef and you will end up rolled in nori and sliced ^^

Have you ever tried any of the questionable spreads? Generally it's not really my thing either, but some of them are actually pretty good, especially the crab and the shrimp varieties.

Better than the chemicals they sell in the us as “food”

I laughed at the 'Dutch Cheese'. Here, it's just 'Cheese'

You're not Dutch until you enjoy licorice. So start eating 'drop' til you get used to it!

Questionable? Coming from a country where you basically have zero oversight and have no idea what they put in your food/spreads etc, I think you can relax :p
