What's the Best Way to Record My Bass Into My Computer?

While I don't believe there is a best piece of equipment for anything, this is the question I hear a lot and for the people asking it, this is probably the right answer.

Thanks for the video. I have the original iRig, will that work too, it doesnt have a usb plug just a headphone and 3/4 plug (i think thats right)

Thank you, great video. I'm a beginner bassist and so far I've been going straight into garage band with a 1/4 in jack. It's not terrible, but it's not great. I wasn't sure if I needed to throw money at more sophisticated gear to get a better sound, but it's nice to know the IRig will give me a fuller more quality sound then the standard line in, but it's not super expensive. Perfect solution for my current needs and progression as a bassist. Any advice or links to videos that would explain, the "next step up" from the IRig? What is needed, what it costs, and what you're getting in return that the IRig wasn't able to?

How about running through a Matchbox DB25? Or into a DBX166 and then into a Matchbox? Or directly into my RME Babyface instrument input? As good as an iRig HD?

Would you recommend using iRig for practicing bass playing? I'm travelling often, and sometimes it's not practical to take my amp with me. I always have my laptop or phone with me, so that's not a problem. My second option is Vox Amplug Bass...

Great video! And now that I have said that, can you tell me how to record audio AND video just like your video? I can record to my computer using Audacity but I have no idea how to incorporate my Logitech 9000 video camera. Is there some other software that is needed?

Just a question about something I don't get. When you are playing the bass... do you hear it immediately on your headphones? Or are you only listening the song? Is this iRig working as a "bass microphone" or you can use it as an pc—amplifier?

I'm new in this, I do not have any experience with musical instruments, but I'm in love with bass guitar. I'll get one and I'd like to know if I need the amplifier or it will be ok if I get the bass guitar and the iRig adapter.
