Some coronavirus restrictions are being eased in Shanghai, despite the Chinese city reporting recent record highs of new cases. Residents have grown increasingly frustrated as they've struggled to find enough food and medicine. We get analysis from Carl Minzner, senior fellow for China studies at the Council on Foreign Relations and a professor at Fordham Law School specialising in Chinese politics and law.

Which one is a more humane way of dealing with the pandemic? Letting the vulnerable groups fall victim to Covid-19 and die (including the elderly, those with chronic preconditions, the unvaccinated children, some of whom can be your beloved ones), or doing your very best to save every life!

America has made its choice to let a million people die. China has made its choice and saved several million lives!

Speaking of social and economic costs under the covid measures like lockdown, I am also befuddled. China should be more impacted as it has adopted a far more restrictive covid-zero policy than all its western counterparts. I would have thought China should be the one afflicted with labor shortages, skyrocketing inflationary pressure, the Great Resignation, the Great Sick-out, Supply Chain Disruptions. How come we have only seen such phenomena in the USA.

Of all the people the channel could have interviewed about people starving to death and jumping to their deaths from lockdown, station interviews someone on the Council of Foreign Relations. And his answer is cold and heartless.
