So you basically paid to stay in a giant replica of a tomb, got vertigo finding your way around, had to take out a small loan just to get some breakfast and then had your shorts stolen! And the ghosts were a no show...you do these things so we dont have to, Tim 😂😂

It’s a shame, they’ve basically let the hotel down. It used to be amazingly themed towards Egypt, now they’ve removed all that and it looks tired af

I went to the Luxor the year it opened and went again about 1o years ago. I cannot tell you how much it has gone downhill. That whole atrium used to be lit, so much more brightness and color. Now it feels like a real pyramid....a tomb.

Tim - no woman in the history of the world has ever said the words ‘there is too much room round this sink’. ❤️🙋‍♀️🇨🇦

A bed bug ‘expert’ on Radio 2 said as soon as you get into your hotel room, put your suitcases and bags into the bath then check for bedbugs. Only takes seconds for the buggers to get into your cases - they can’t climb into baths 😅

I imagine the elevators are probably the biggest issue for building management. I can't imagine they're easy to maintain, considering how rare incline elevators typically are.

I love Tim’s British perspective on American hotels it’s really refreshing and feels like I’m there with him! Great video again Tim! Looking forward for more! ❤

My family stayed here in I think summer 1996. I was a kid but loved it. There were a ton of things to learn about Egypt. There were people dressed on costumes working along the Nile tour... there was a really great video game arcade... down below there was a recreation of King Tut's tomb and a gift shop with stone scarabs and ancient Egyptian coins. Ive stayed again since then and its not the full experience it originally was.

I stayed there a few years ago and a bunch of drunk dudes started throwing furniture over the balcony into the atrium from one of the top floors. I remember the sounds of the furniture slamming into the buildings below and the pieces shattering all over the floor and sliding on the tiles. Someone got hit in the head but survived. It scared me going in there the rest of the holiday.

Agreed! The hallways did indeed smell like ancient cigarette smoke, and the vertigo from navigating them made me pity the cleaning staff. Was a once in a lifetime experience since I henceforth vowed to stay only in traditional right-angled hotels. Anyway, thanks for the brilliant tour, Tim!

Fun fact. All the furniture in your room came from the Bellagio from their recent renovation!

But to explain the state of the hotel, the luxor is one of those hotels that is a victim of the great "de-themeing" of Vegas where all the themed hotels lose their theme, get only the most basic renovations and they dont put money into them because they're "chintzy" and "tacky" (see also Excalibur, Circus Circus, etc). Its not bad not as fabulous as it once was, but I have a soft spot for campy hotels.

If you want a REALLY bad hotel, check out the Rio, Ellis Island, Or OYO. Those are GNARLY

My late husband and I stayed there somewhere around late 1990's or early 2000's. It was the filthiest room I ever saw. Plus, when I sat on the edge of the bed, a spring popped up through the mattress, cutting my thigh. I looked under the sheet and could tell it didn't just happen because there were a few other holes in the mattress. After complaining to the staff at the check in desk the guy looked me up and down (I am a plus size woman, probably 170 lbs. at the time) and said "Are you SURE it didn't just happen?". So insulting. They ended up giving us a suite. It was obviously under cleaned. There was trash left in dresser drawers, hair in the tub, dust around the bed and the TV remote was missing, rendering it useless. And there was a cart with dirty dishes piled up just outside our door that stayed there the entire 3 days we were there. I would never stay there again. Not just because of the dirtiness, but because of the insulting way I was treated.

I stayed there several times when it first open and it was beautiful. I recently stayed there and I couldn’t believe how run down and dated the room and even parts of the hotel. I did also noticed the hotel and room had a old smell and elevators suck but had a nice time with family. Thanks again for another cool and informative video.

These are the sorts of videos that help people choose where to stay in Vegas. I did this when I went in 2012 as I wanted to stay at the Bellagio until I saw the videos of the rooms and what I can only describe as old granny bedrooms. I ended up at the Aria which was very modern and had all the tech back then. Keep up the good work Tim.

I think one of the biggest problems Luxor has is so much was built custom for it. There are no replacement parts for those elevators...inclinators, the HVAC in the rooms, etc. That makes the cost of maintenance and renovation exceedingly high in a time when everything uses off the shelf components.

I stayed at the Luxor little less than a month ago and thought it was a dump - lifts took 10-15 minutes. Parts of the room wall were visibly chipped, the paint on the bathroom door was peeling, as was the ceiling in the shower. The lifts themselves seemed to be in disrepair, as you showed in your video. I complained to the manager and they took off the resort fees, but I wouldn't recommend staying there again. Actually going back to Vegas a few weeks after getting back from Britain but am going to Planet Hollywood. Great pity, I used to really like the Luxor. Granted not high end like Wynn, but still was a nice place. Alas no longer. Dunno if they have bed bugs, but it wouldn't surprise me.

All in all, not worth staying at Luxor given that it's a long walk from every place else. In any case, safe travels back to the UK.

Your Vegas series has been so helpful. I'm going to Las Vegas in a few months for the first time ever for leisure (been a half dozen times for work, usually in a Hampton Inn or such, which is fine by me, but not my friends for vacation). Your reviews are so thorough and hit all the sort of things I want to know... like is there a fridge in the room and more importantly is it one you'd want to even bother with, or toiletries offered, or upkeep of furniture, etc. Thank you!

Hi Tim. Ive always thought this hotel was all glitz and glamour. Looks very modern down stairs, but shocked to see the rooms looking very dull and in need of a massive makeover. Those lifts condition really suprised me to be damaged like that to think of the clientele that can afford this place. Yes breakfast price was ridiculous so i be taking a week of pack lunches lol. That price seems. Expensive.

I get such a rush of nostalgia every time I stay at Luxor. Been going to Vegas since I was 13 years old in the mid 90's. And Luxor never disappoints every time I stay here.
