Okay so I see everyone saying that she sacrificed them for power, history wise she didnt sacrifice her children at ALL. Osman killed Mehmet, then Osman got killed by Halime so Mustafa could ascend the throne, then Murad killed Kasim, Bayezid, Suleyman and Selim, then Murad died of an illness, Geverhan died because of an illness, the only one she killed was Ibrahim and not even for power. Everyone in the council agreed that Ibrahim needs to be removed as he emplimented heavy taxes on the people and there was a lot of discontent from the people. The Blockade by the venetians didn't help either, the empire was on the brink of falling, he was ruining almost everything Murad IV left. So she had to excute him for the sake of the empire. And it wasn't even her who voluntereed to become regent over Mehmed, she asked to retire to the old palace but the officials of the council refused and made her regent as she had more experience than Turhan, then that SAME council started turning against her once she became regent. As for Mehmed's poisoning it was more about getting rid of Turhan than Mehmed himself, Turhan was planting seeds and instigating people just because she didnt like the fact that they chose Kosem over her and that Kosem's salary is higher than hers. While she was trying to tutor and rule along with her grandson, an internal war within the palace broke out again. So yes she did fall into the trap of everyone instigating them against each other but at the same time I dont blame her, living through four reigns, making sure that the empire stands only for it to start falling again and right when you wanted to retreat away, no one lets you and you have to repeat it all over again..but when you wanted to help, you became the villain. But if she truly was a bad ruler, people wouldn't have mourned her for 3 days straight.
