Arcangelo Corelli (1653-1713): Primo Tempo Della VI Sonata

A beautiful organ transcription by Luigi Picchi (1899-1970) who has made, next to his own compositions, lots of transcriptions from orchestral baroque works. This is one of them!

I played Arcangelo Corelli (1653-1713): Primo Tempo Della VI Sonata (Grave) in a transcription for organ with sample set Dudelange. I used all strings stops, from 4’ Viola to the 16’ Gambe to mimic all string instruments from a orchestra. So the result is a full, warm and embracing sound that resembles a string orchestra.

For the best listening experience, I recommend using headphones, earbuds, or a hi-fi set. The sound dynamics of the pipe organ are truly remarkable and can be fully appreciated with high-quality audio equipment.

Played with the Stahlhuth/Jann-orgel in Dudelange, Luxemburg (Hauptwerk)

As you remark, Rien, this is a wonderful organ transcription by Picchi of this Corelli sonata movement which you have registered so richly on the Dudelange sample set: bravo!
Arcangelo Corelli was certainly a remarkable musician. I have read that he was known in his time as "the new Orpheus" and "the prince of musicians"! Great folklore was generated around him and his fame did not diminish even after his death. I'm sure Picchi will have known that Corelli's sonatas continue to be used in musical academies as teaching material, as well as compositions eminently suitable for concert repertoire. Corelli's position in the history of Western music is considered crucial, being recognized as one of the greatest masters at the turn of the 17th and 18th century, as well as one of the earliest and greatest classicists. You have started the week with a glorious echo from the past!

Beautifully done! Do you know where I can get the sheet music for this? I would love to add this to my repertoire

Corelli composed it, Picchi transcribed it and Rien is the conductor and organist at the same time. A very successful orchestral performance!👍👍

Love Corelli. I think even more than Bach who was btw inspired by Vivaldi and the Italian style.

Definitely played with "cathedral ears" -- I hear it! Dudelange both demands it and delivers it -- with a bit of masterful help from Rien ...

Corelli's music is awesome. I recorded this some years ago too, in a completely different style. Well done
