Hi Rob!
Down the bottom right near your speedo and engine start button is another button you can click to change to 4wd rather that having to go through the menu.

I also picked up the game recently, would love to get into the multiplayer mod, but found I was lost in the main game not knowing what key to press to accomplish things and no brain power to work it out, I have no doubt it is an amazing game once you know all the correct shortcuts, but it is a bit beyond me at the moment.
