New BMW X3 In Depth UK Review 2022 Smarter and More Sophisticated ?

The improved version of BMW's third-generation X3 is a premium mid-sized SUV that's a smarter and more sophisticated choice than the car it replaces, stacking up impressively against prestigiously-badged alternatives from Audi, Mercedes, Jaguar and Volvo in this sector. Like its rivals, dynamically targeted almost exclusively towards on-road use, it's another example of just how car-like a model of this kind can be.

You wouldn't would you? Dramatically change a car that's already a best seller. So the improved version of this third-generation BMW X3, the Munich maker's entrant in the ever-growing premium mid-sized SUV segment, very much emphasises evolution over revolution when it comes to the alterations made.

This 'G01'-series design was originally launched at the end of 2017, like its predecessor built at BMW's US plant in Spartenburg, South Carolina and styled by Australian Calvin Luk. With this revised model, cabin quality takes a big leap forward. And there's also a properly potent 'M Competition' petrol flagship variant for the first time equipped to take the fight to road-burning rivals like the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 4MATIC+. Which is just one of a wide range of powerplants for this model line that these days includes both PHEV and all-electric options.

This review is more useful than the manufacturer's brochure!

This is the best review I’ve come across on any website for a single vehicle. Very authoritative and well done 👍! I’m already sold!

Interesting, I had a G05 X5 for 3 years, and just changed to ... another X5 -- but just because the currently X3 lacks quite a few of the options mentioned in the video. At the time of order, *a lot* of the smart driving bits were not available .. also, the build time were something like 8 months, while I had my new X5 in under 3 months, with all the options I wanted (bar a couple) -- it seems BMW is prioritizing the bigger X5 with what is a limited supply of parts. However, having test drive a 30d X3, I would have *loved* to get one of these, as it is a fantastic car, and feels indeed like a lovely mini X5 in terms of interior, while being a lot more nimble and easier to place on our narrow UK roads. I seriously think I might crossgrade to a X3 once the part shortage eases off, perhaps in a years time. (Note: I have a F25 X3 before the X5, for 7 years, and loved it)

Living in Australia it is ludicrous not to have a full size spare wheel. What would be helpful would be to see how much boot space a FSP would take up. If still enough space for a "weekend away luggage" then makes the X3 feasible - can always go to a roof box if whole family holiday. This depends on same wheel size for front and rear tho'.

Is the 382bhp X3 M40i only for US markets? Seems UK and Asia the LCI X3 M40i with Mild Hybrid is only 360bhp.

Disappointing review. Was expecting better from you based on previous reviews. NO mention of steering feel/feedback, especially at different speeds, driving comfort, etc etc. All the info you shared in 40mins is easily available in brochures etc. Sorry to sound negative but hopefully you will take these comments as constructive suggestions!
