NATO and the future of deterrence and defense on Europe’s eastern front

As NATO approaches its 75th anniversary in 2024, it defends the transatlantic community amidst Russia’s ongoing and brutal invasion of Ukraine, violence in the Middle East, and tensions and instability in the Indo-Pacific and other regions of the world. Our discussion will address the evolving threats before the Alliance and the requirements they generate for effective deterrence and defense, including those pertaining to NATO’s force posture and the defense industry necessary to generate and sustain that posture. It will explore the actions the Three Seas States of NATO should be taking to reinforce the Alliance and what they should be expecting of their Allies to ensure that NATO is as successful in the coming years as it has been in the past 75.

Well...if you take a 30 day holiday from weapons development maintaining an adequate manufacturing weapons base buying an adequate amount of modern effective military kit maintaining a numerically adequate highly trained military and adequate stocks of military hardware buffer stocks until you can switch to wartime production the you can someday expect a problem when a thug with 200 000 troops show up at the border .

And if you become dependent upon resources from a possible or historical enemy and trade with that entity you leave youself terribly vulnerable and increase the consequences and difficulty of responding to aggression .
Finally it is essential that NATO have several .embers with substantial nuclear weapons.
It is not enough to have 1 member with nuclear capabiliy because if that member decides that shielding another member isn't worth it then there is no nuclear shield.
