If u clean and coat the tailgate jams and hinges, even on an occasional basis, there will be a lot less accumulated gunk. Rain water et al. will flow much more freely and tend to naturally keep it cleaner.

Degreaser with just a micro fiber is not only easier but also quicker and just overall more efficient

All purpose soak for 30 seconds then pressure washer then dry. Takes 2 min total
