Here I show you how to install a Thinkware Dash camera setup from start to finish. Some stuff is left out but that should be self explanatory. This method will change depending on vehicle, but just about the same though. Here is a camera that is pretty popular and I have installed before with no hiccups.

Totally awesome! I was sort of amazed there would be a video on this for Prius people

I installed Thinkware front and rear camera on my 2013 Prius V. Running the cable from the rear camera to the front was surprisingly easy. For power I used hardwire kit and tapped into the homelink mirror always hot and accessory and ground lines, that avoided any need to get down to the fuse panel. The in line fuses of the hardwire kit fit easily inside the dome light/SOS panel that you can pull out of the headliner with a plastic trim tool. Kit of 4 nylon trim tools was $7.99 at Harbor Freight. I shortened the thinkware hardwire cable substantially and soldered and shrink wrapped the connections. On my car, red line into the homelink mirror was the always hot. black line was the accessory power line, and white with black stripe was the ground. I pulled the "dome" 10 A fuse while making up the connections and left the car off which meant no power to the wires while I was working on them.

The dome light console on my Prius is held with two push in plastic connectors at the front (windshield side) and tabs at the back, so pulling at the front left and then the front right pops it right out.

Be careful, old plastic elements often break off when you force-unsnap them after 10 years. This particular Prius has a very narrow rubber tubing and depending on what you have to snake thru, it might just not fit. Ironically speaking, the more I learn about the Prius, the more I think it’s been engineered a bit like IKEA furniture. It was meant to be built once and not unbuilt later. Good luck:).

Isn't the air bag covered by the wire when you cross the wires over the pillars? Shouldn't you be fishing the wire under the airbag?

What happened to using the fuses ? Much easier than getting those wires cut and trying to work around those parameters

Why not just use the fuse box and wire it to the fuse box?
