Your passion for the base Carrera really comes across. Interesting that a lot of respected motoring journalists likewise consider the base Carrera as the 'pick.' I also agree that the interior ergonomics, leather finishing, and stylish colour add to that special experience. Nice video, thank you.

Had my 2005 997.1 Carerra S for 7 years now, unopened engine, passing 112000 miles on the clock, OCI at 5000 miles, no problems at all, Fantastic cars, and the last true 911 in my opinion

Got my first 911 almost 2 years ago- 2006 (997.1) Carrera 2S manual transmission. It only had 14, 000 miles and the price was high. Still, it's worth it. It has the best shape, size and sound. Even the tail lights look great. Thanks for the review.

Your speechlessness says it all…. This car is more than words can describe. I love the base 997.1. Would love to own one of these… and I may just take the plunge and get one while I still can.

As a 997.1 owner it’s great to see someone fighting the corner for the m96/m97 engined cars. I find the biggest difference between the two is the type of plastic used in the cabin and the suspension used.
Gen2 has a different type of plastic used in the cabin which does not become as brittle over time. The gen one interiors can creak and rattle. The suspension only has two gyros to detect pasm too, the gen 2 has a third gyro as well as different spring rates.

The character of my x51 3.8 is intoxicating

Another great video! I’ve owned a fair few different models of Porsche and I agree there is something so special about the 997! I really love mine (bought at Invictus!)

I love my 997 gen 1 carerra 4. It looks great with the wider rear, plenty of power and the manual gearbox is fantastic. Personally not a big fan of the new models.

997.1 one I prefer it over the 997.2 all way.

I have a 2008 Porsche 911 997 Gen 1 Base with Turbo Wheels and I love it.

As a gen 1 C2S owner I love the review, however, I will disagree on the gear box. The Miata and the s2000 both make everything else I have driven seam rubbery and vague. I have 89k miles on my 911 and it’s a wonderful car.

I would say that the Turbo too is my favorite. The 997.1 across the board.

Great video, I’m looking at a 997.1 Carrera 4 manual out here in Canada. Is the comparison video out?

Carrera 4, 4S, Turbo, and GT variants have the wide body (except the standard GT3, GT3 RS is also wide body). Carrera, Carrera S are narrow body. A lot of people believe the base Carrera is perfect. You have wring it out to get the joy out of it and that engagement is what everyone is looking for.

You’re a sports car enthusiast. I agree. This car hits the sweet spot between power, weight, performance, technology, simplicity, luxury utility, and not a turbo. 👍🏻 It’s brilliant. No car can match it for overall driving enjoyment. Why can’t they make cars like this anymore?

Such a good drivers review, can not disagree in any way as a driver who wants to be in charge of the driving experience, I'll work it out better than the electronic control of the later models 👏👍

I love this video because most people write off the Carrera and just go straight to the s.. that’s kinda sad to me. It’s plenty a 911 for most of us! I could have bought a s or gts but I wanted to explore the base carrera ! I feel more connected to the brand with a base of that makes sense.. man you get so much feel through the steering it take some getting used too! Kinda like a gocart! My only plans is to lower it just a bit with the b12 cup kit by bilstein! Thx again for this review

I agree that the 997.1 has an awful lot going for it. It looks better than the 997.2 (due to the lights), and the engine sounds much better too.
The base Carrera seems somewhat less prone to bore scoring than the 3.8S too, so it is certainly a good buy if you find a good one.
Personally I think PASM is a very nice option to have (and the big brakes etc), so a Hartech rebuilt C2S is still my favourite, but I can see your point.
(One point to mention, only the 4 wheel drive cars get the wide body.)
