The Sad State of Halloween Candy

Something is wrong with Halloween candy this year. The candy is shrinking and more expensive than ever - yet this is supposed to be "for our health"? Something doesn't add up here.

Is this really all because of shrinkflation? Or is there something even spookier going on?

I think - it's the food industry again.

But when you make things smaller, people tend to eat more of it. These companies know what they are doing. We just need to stop being suckers and buying the stuff. Like they say, the rich get richer. This is why.

No way anyone believes that candy companies actually care about us

Last year I was the house that had 3 buckets. One chocolate, one gummy, and one party favors (Including penciles and erasers) the parents laughed at me, but the kids loved getting the stickers, bouncy balls, and other trinkets more than the candy.

This is insane... Halloween candy in AUGUST?!
I don't know, I don't live in USA haha, but your videos always surprise me so much.
I remember when I was young, my mom would make home made popcorn, we put it in little bags, and that was our treat :) When I would go door to door, people would hand little pieces of candy, sure, but also fruit. Shame the food company takes advantage of this wholesome holiday.

I live in the US and always heard the Europeans think our Chocolate taste like vomit because of the chemicals used in it that are banned over there. Recently I switched to only eating higher quality stuff and then tried to eat some Hershey's again and I 100% get the vomit taste people describe now and can no longer eat the stuff.

Loved your take on this and your over the top royalty free Halloween music and graphics! I host a trick-or-treat party in a neighborhood referred to as "the front lines of trick or treat". Other adults who don't live in town or have young kids to trick or treat with come over and take turns passing out candy. We see close to 1, 000 trick-or-treaters! I try to have a variety of candy and non-candy things, and stock up on the non-candy items year round; skeleton paratroopers, sidewalk chalk, bead necklaces, glow-in-the-dark teeth, stickers, sea shells, even inexpensive seed packets! I'm actually already on the hunt for innovative non-candy items for this year, so I don't spend a fortune in October. While I do run out of candy no matter how much I stock up because that's the main thing many kids are collecting, a lot of kids, teens, and parents appreciate the alternative choices. :-D Dang, it is hard not to dip in ahead of time or during. (I was a kid who definitely pushed the envelope about how many pieces of Halloween candy I could or would eat per day, and it's still potentially in my nature!) To help with that I have lots of delicious savory blood sugar-balancing foods made up for the grownups. We make pizza from scratch during the party, for the grown-ups, and anyone else we know who stops in. While not widely embraced as a health foods its way better for blood sugar balance. :-D

At an office party, my friend’s boss decided to cut pizza slices half the original size, assuming the employees would eat less, by some mental trick, but they ate way more and the boss had to order more food 😂

I’m going to be honest. I could have done with more royalty free Halloween songs 😂❤

I'm handing out Dollar Tree slime this year. way cheaper than candy, allergen friendly, and still fun for the kids :)

its crazy that shrinking was the solution to lowering sugar content, instead of ACTUALLY lowering the sugar content

Not me getting all that Halloween candy on the 31st. 😂

Fr though, it’s crazy how much they jacked up the prices. Didn’t even know the candy itself was getting smaller as well. Thanks as always for informing us!

If I get Halloween candy, I’m just going to get some at a dollar store. They’re at least not as much tbh.

Win-win for the candy industry. Good optics and PR, and they make more money. Your content is splendid, thank you for your efforts.

I’m sick of corporate greed in America. It genuinely makes me angry but I also feel helpless to do anything other than not buy specific brands or from certain places. It really is infuriating.

The moment you mentioned the name of that organization, I knew it had to be a front group for the candy industry. Thanks for calling this stuff out.

Honestly? Them raising the prices on snacks has done wonders for my health 😂 9/10 times it’s not worth the cost and I can barely afford normal groceries anyway.

I was surprised when I saw Americans say “it’s Halloween season!” in the middle of August and now I understand why. Here in Spain we didn’t have Halloween candy until a week or two ago, although I’ve seen Hallowen (and also Christmas!!) decor since September.
We don’t have the Halloween candy problem, but Christmas comes earlier every year (and I don’t like it, it makes it meaningless).

I will forever shout it out that full-size candy bars are way healthier for you than Halloween mini bars. When I eat a chocolate bar, I just eat the one. I savour it, enjoy it, feel like I'm having a yummy lil treat. I eat a fair amount of chocolate bars. Minibars tho - nobody feels satisfied on just one of those. You end up eating even more calories than a full size bar without feeling like you've eaten anything at all. They're just another sneaky feature in the 'idk why I'm fat, I don't eat that much!' phenom.

My cousin has been the candy stocker at Walmart for years and is constantly sending us videos showing how the sizes of candy has shrunk and the price goes up at least 30 cents per large bar

In Germany I feel most people do not buy Halloween stuff before October but by October most of the Halloween stuff is out of stores again, replaces with Christmas candy.
