Turrets are awesome. This is how you can make them awesomer and easily defend your base against those nasty attacks.

Bear in mind that the game is in Early Access, a lot of this might be subject to change. I'll post another video if anything significant changes in the near future.

Please do ask any questions or give feedback in the comments section. I hope you find this useful, have fun playing the game!

A few things. Traps only cost a little scrap, and they last forever, barely ever break down, just have to have someone with handling go out and reset them. Piling them up at the very front entrance and around the edges into your funnel helps a ton in keeping them stuck at the front, and giving your turrets time to pick them off, not to mention holds them in place for your flamethrowers. Next, if you build your base, then your farm, then put your entrance to your base on the other side of your farm, the farm attacks will usually come in on the same side as your regular attacks do, since its the path of least resistance and they try to start close to the farm side, which means your turrets usually handle them too. If you have animals close to your turrets, and need resources, or just want to stop a farm attack before it starts, you can set them to be hunted and your turrets will target and kill them. And finally, as someone else mentioned, build a small building with a roof to put your survivors under during flying attacks, with no walls, and they will attack, or alternatively, build it close to the turrets, and let the turrets pick them off as they group around you.

For the flying attacks build a roof building with no walls. Have your survivors underneath. Will allow them to pick them off without taking damage.

I like having Simon with a shotgun to bait out groups of enemies, fire, retreat while reloading, stop and shoot, and continue this because he'll stun groups of them. Then he mans the breach. Also useful for assaulting bug nests before a mech core can be found.
He's my researcher, tailor, crafter, and bait. *I mean scout.* Dude's a damn hero.
It also means I know who is going home first; as he's served his purpose by endgame.

Explaining their path finding helps a lot. The laser turret deals a ton of damage but my entrance seems to be set up wrong after watching this. As for the ones that break into the garden for food: if your a new player, be sure you can handle being attacked before attacking them. They will defend themselves and if you keep attacking them, they will all come after you. Ive had all my survivors unconscious and bleed out because of that LOL. There were just 2 in my garden and i didnt pay much attention to them, but the numbers grew over time and I had to do something. Unfortunately everyone died 🤣

I found instead of just having a lane down the middle I made a courtyard style, so it zigzagged using the metal short fencing and they would then get shot from all angles whilst their path in was increased to 3 times the distance instead of the straight line. Adding traps will also slow them right down.

Good video, but I would add two things.
Others mentioned traps, use them, not just for the main pathway, but with 1 line all around your base, next to the walls. Crop eaters will get bleeding from them and most of the times they will run away.
The other thing is for crop eaters and for larger enemies too: leave a bigger gap on the main entrance, they should always have at least 3 wide space on the entrance to fit through or they will just go for the fence. This means if you open up the farms on the inside, creating an at least 3 wide pathway, they will try to go that way. I'm still testing this, but it seems crop eaters will never attack fences when I have traps and a clear pathway to the crops.

Great video and defense setup. One question for you regarding the walls in the entrance: why the crenulated inner walls? just for style? or do they serve a purpose? thanks.

There's more than one ranged enemy. You mentioned the scorpion creatures (only the adults have ranged) but there are also giant mantis creatures with ranged. It seems to be a shorter range than the scorpions but they can shoot over your walls when they get close.

Edit: also in the late game when you get the improved railgun (improved range, improved rate of fire, etc) your survivors will be killing machines. Research for the gun opens up after completing a specific expedition.

You should do a playthrough of this game. I would like to see how you first set up and then move on to this. I'm finding it really hard to get winter clothes made and a few are suffering because of it. 😄

You need to make a Video on how you deal with all the power you need.
I can only see wind generators, this couldnt do it for me as they where only dealing 4 elec per hour.
I had drain of around 300 and was really struggling to keep batteries topped up.
cheers 😀

so im curious why you didn't use the bear traps (or i can't see the traps). the bear traps will lock ground enemies in place will small damage you could set in front of the flamethrowers, or you could set them in a place to simply thin them out in range of the turrets letting them get to them when they are last in range

Have you figured out exactly how high you can place turrets and still have them fire at ground targets? Is 3 tiles too high?

Hey do you ever have where the ai's don't eat when their is food and the other is do you have an issue where they don't heal the other ai's and they die.

they take the shortest distance now to your survivors . Doesn’t matter if you have a gap, they’ll attack walls if yours survivors are hanging at home away your open gate

I'm not sure the pathing explained here is true. My base has only one walled side, lets call it the north side. When the last attack of 100 black beetles happened, they spawned at just north of my base. I had some people in towers with sniper rifles behind the walled section and they shot some. The beetles then ran straight at the only walled section and attacked until they broke through, they did not go around to the many other non walled parts of my base.

Would it be possible to get the seed where you are playing? I’d like to try that location

You don´t need to protect non-edible crops.
