Pirates of the Caribbean is a Disney media franchise encompassing numerous theme park rides, a series of films, and spin-off novels, as well as a number of related video games and other media publications. The franchise originated with the theme park ride of the same name, which opened at Disneyland in 1967 and was one of the last Disneyland rides overseen by Walt Disney. Disney based the ride on pirate legends, folklore and novels, such as those by Italian writer Emilio Salgari.

This is a smart move. The appetite for female lead/co-lead original films is there (like Babylon, Birdbox, Quiet Place, etc) but the appetite for female leads rebooting franchises just for the sake of it is NOT.

Every time this crew talks about Pirates, I'm reminded about how some people can confidently talk about shit that they have no clue about. Jack was never feared by anyone, which one could argue was part of his overall brilliance. No one, ever, has underrated Barbossa as a character, hence his reveal at the end of Dead Man's Chest. As for the writing or direction, nothing changed in the original trilogy. It wasn't until after Verbinski left that shit made a turn for the worse, mainly with Jack.

This isn't rocket science. Margot has proven time and time again she's a great actress, but not a box office needle.
She's hot and a good actress, so ppl put her high up back in the late 2010s but she's shown that she can't move that needle the way it needs to be moved. If barbie bombs, she's done.

I don't think Jack works as a solo lead in the franchise. The first three films work for me because Jack is allowed to be Jack, but Will and Elizabeth are also leads and play the straight man/woman. Once the 4th came about, they had to mellow Jack out a bit and then in the 5th he's just an idiot.

Good idea to cancel this bad idea. If Disney wants another pirate movie/franchise they can try Sea of Thieves. They’ve already had a collaboration with them and used jack in the story which was pretty good.

Good. I want more Jack Sparrow at any cost. For goodness sakes, the franchise deserves another film with its number one star. Issues be damned. Someone pen a script and wrap it up, give Johnny an apology and a glorious check. We need a proper ending first.

Rebooting this would be a utter failure in my opinion. If your going to go a route even with a female lead that character should be introduced in the main stay franchise and then do a spin off.

I feel like Pirates Of The Caribbean is a franchise where every few years or so a rumor of a possible reboot will come around but I don’t think we’ll ever actually see one get made, Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow is really the core DNA of what this franchise is and without him I don’t think it’ll ever feel like the same thing, it’s like doing Evil Dead without Ash Williams, it’s just not the same (And yes I’m aware the 2013 movie is a thing) So I don’t think anyone will ever actually figure out how they’re supposed to approach this idea and so it’ll ultimately never come to life
