President Donald Trump is expected to make an announcement Friday afternoon on the partial government shutdown.

The longest U.S. funding lapse ever is in its 35th day. On Friday, about 800,000 workers started to miss their second paychecks since it began on Dec. 22.

Trump has repeatedly insisted on securing $5.7 billion to build his proposed border wall before he agrees to reopen the government. Democrats have refused his request.

After two bills to reopen the government failed in the Senate on Thursday, serious talks to find an end to the impasse restarted for the first time in weeks. In the GOP-held Senate, momentum gathered behind a plan to fund the government for three weeks while lawmakers hash out a broader immigration deal.

On Thursday, Trump asked for a “down payment” for the barrier in exchange for funding the government.

I voted for him and He caved. He didn't have to shutdown govt for a month it accomplished nothing. Then said that most fed workers didn't complain and stood with him lol. Then he said that companies are coming back. He named not a one. I predict Within 3 weeks no deal will happen and someone else will be indicted. Nothing is getting done. Lame duck. I'm pissed.

Now let's hope a compromise can be reached. I have family who work for the federal government, and they have had to go without a lot because of this. I don't do politics, but there has to be at least some type of middle ground for all parties without taking away from those working hard through the exploitation of a government who makes themselves out to care more than they actually do. The only folks whose pays should have stopped are those sitting in those chairs, pushing papers, and making government workers suffer. All parties have been going about this situation wrong. 🙄 I don't mind a new wall being built. People will do what they feel is necessary, but to shut the government down on the lower levels while the highest still collect their pay is more than irritating.
