When sales people try this on me, I just say yeah, I understand you can’t be exact but I need to know a ballpark figure. I don’t want to waste either of our time going down the path if we know the end state isn’t going to work. If they protest, I’ll start throwing out hypotheticals and their reaction will tell me all I need to know.

It’s a great test to weed out salespeople using manipulative tactics. If you’re embarrassed to tell me the price then your offer sucks.

I leave & block people who try this. If I’m asking about price more than once, I clearly have a budget in mind or know another option to solve the problem. You just sound like you don’t know your rates & inexperienced.
-There are better ways to handle this question, like “sounds like you’re price conscious, looking for a great deal. Let’s run through a few options to see what works best for you. Let me ask, ….?” I literally used this today & closed a prospect who told TWO other salesman “no” before I closed her.
-Depending on the pricing model, you also could have qualified them early on by inquiring about what price range they’re considering, via questionnaire or client intake form, upon arrival.

This garbage is so annoying to consumers are we are so tired of such tactics. If you came back to me with that response I would say “TELL ME YOUR PRICE RANGE NOW OR I WALK.”
