What makes Sheriff Herb Geller's death more shocking in this 1988 remake movie of "The Blob" was that like Paul, their actors were both top billed and potentially set up as the main characters in this movie, only for the both of them to end up as victims early in the movie.

I like how 80s horror movies have these high concept death scenes built on different ways of using practical effects.

I love how you can see his eye moving. He's still alive as he's being digested and he knows what's about to happen to her. Horrifying.

I like that she makes some minimal effort to survive, although she understands that it is useless. In most horror films, the characters simply scream and go into hysterics at the sight of a threat, not trying to do anything to help themselves.

An incredibly rare example of a remake being as good or even better than the original. Jeff Goldblum's "The Fly" is also an awesome remake.

"Oh you're looking for the sheriff? THIS ONE?"

Here in Brazil there's a TV channel that would air this movie in the afternoon traumatizing all the kids that were home from school. The 90's were crazy af lmao

One of the best horror movies ever. Even better than the original in my opinion.

This movie had some of the best practical effects of that era. By the end of the 80s to early 90s practical effects reached its zenith. This film represents that period.

When I first saw this movie, this scene made me feel a little claustrophobic at first.

I gotta admit for a movie from the late 80s, this scene is quite horrifying. Especially the ending at 1:54 when it finally breaks through... oof

Why would you just stop just around the corner, seeing something like the blob I would've been running non stop out of town!

Lesson to be learned, run and don’t stop running, don’t run into a trapped small space. Where there’s no way out.

As an aside, I did like that clever shot of the quarter that she uses to try to call the sheriff -- a coin with tails side-up is considered bad luck in superstition.

I saw this scene as a very young child when I woke up and the TV was on. The image of the sheriff smooshed against the glass by the Blob is forever burned into my memory.

What a surprise for the Blob if Superman had been in the booth.

The shot of him outside the glass was actually insane. Freakishly well done.

Classic horror movie, made when phone booths actually still existed too

Now I see why pay phone booths were discontinued.

I was so disturbed by this movie as a kid, and horror movies in general don't really scare me.. but man they pulled out all the stops on this remake.
