The concept of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) is variously defined as teaching as scholarly work, evidence-based methods to study effective teaching and student learning, and systematic research and dissemination about teaching and learning. This can include reports on particular classes (e.g., something that worked, qualitative or quantitative assessments of changes; reflective essays, summaries, or integrations of scholarship on teaching; comparisons of courses or student change across time) and more formal research (experimental designs, systematic literature reviews, meta-analyses). In this workshop, we discuss a systematic approach to designing, assessing, and publishing SoTL projects. Several example projects are described, from conception to publication. We also discuss ways that the LT&ITC can consult with you on your project ideas.

Presenter: Tom Brinthaupt

Dr. Brinthaupt is Director of Faculty Development in the LT&ITC and Professor of Psychology. He has published more than 20 SoTL-type papers.

I like your pronunciation of SOTL, Tom. After all, a "sot" is not really something I want to refer to in my scholarship. Seriously, thanks for this workshop. Right up my alley.
