Bethany's Work in Ethiopia

Poverty and internal conflict are a big reason why 200,000 children are living outside of family-based care in major Ethiopian cities. When children are separated from their families, an orphanage has historically been the solution for their care.

By keeping children with families and out of orphanages, we’re committed to strengthening families in Ethiopia. And when we sustain families, they build stronger communities. Decades of research emphasize that family is essential to a child’s physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Our first priority in Ethiopia is keeping children stable and safe with their family of origin. When that’s not possible, we find local adoptive families who can provide a loving home.
