This video is for a tutorial on how to track phone number clicks by using Google Tag Manager (GTM) for Google Analytics 4. This will work to track phone number clicks for both desktop and mobile browsers, but not the actual dialing nor the call to the phone number.

05:22 Creating the Trigger in GTM to Track Phone Number Clicks
06:40 Testing Phone Number Click Tracking with GTM
08:23 Validating Phone Number Click Data in Google Analytics 4

You will see how to use Google Tag Manager to set up an event tag and a corresponding trigger. The tag in Google Tag Manager will send the phone number click event data to Google Analytics 4.

When you add the Click URL variable to capture the click on the phone number link, you only need it once. You can either add it by typing in {{Click URL}} or by clicking on the lego block icon next to the field and selecting the Click URL from that list.

When you use preview mode in Google Tag Manager, select the Google container for your Google Analytics 4 property at the top. That will be the measurement ID that starts with "G-".

You can validate your tracking in Google Analytics 4 using either the DebugView mode or in the realtime report. This will show if you configured the tracking for the phone number click event properly with the event name and any event parameters you associated with the event.
