I totally agree with your well-presented view. Just one quick observation:-the current regime has demonstrated over these 6 months, that it's an insurgency by nature, so the hopes of having good-faith negotiations with it for the common good, are rather bleak, unless they completely run out of options and their hands are forced.

From the very onset and for the longest of times, Ruto had just a singular aim, and that was to be 'President of Kenya' by book, hook or crook. He happens to have become one by crook.

The only things he clearly loves, are the trappings and privileges of that office, because he has so far failed in all else, and it looks as if he doesn't have the wherewithal to successfully run that office; or, maybe, he's just plain incompetent.

If Ruto was competent and actually took the interests of the citizens seriously, then the dynamics on the ground would be very different now, regardless of how he became president.

And another complicating factor is his lack of real compassion for average people beyond performative tokenisms he displays every so often. Besides, he has an almost religious adherence to the principle of divide and rule, which means that the inputs of many talented and able Kenyans are excluded as a matter of policy, since they belong to the wrong pool.

The road ahead for us all is tough, whichever way you slice and dice it.
