Join me for another fun and inspiring Q & A session from the g&g shop floor. This is a recording of the Instagram Live that took place on Monday 23rd January 2023 at 8pm UK time.

00:00 Introduction
04:17 New fabrics
14:19 I watched your video on using Prym Love Snap Tool. I find the jersey snaps with the metal tops are great. If I use the plastic snaps they are really difficult to undo and they can sometimes snag the fabric even if I use interfacing on the placket. Have you experienced this?
16:04 Re inserting invisible zips, the Kenneth D. King method using a regular zipper foot is absolutely great. His video is clear and concise and he gets to the point with no flaffing (a huge plus in my book ;)). I'd never use any other method now.
16:35 Altho I love the look of the hovea, I already have the nova pattern and have made it in a coating but I'd like to make the shorter version in a lighter colour/weight of fabric possibly quilted cotton gauze. I'm guessing I'd need to bind the edges if I used this fabric?
18:34 How does the stretch cone mill compare to your classic blue 11oz stretch denim? Have bought both from you and made a pair of ginger jeans in classic blue several years ago and about to cut into the cone demin should I cut the same size??? Thanks 😊 Peta
20:04 I’m thinking of a Billie dress with the Emerald. What cuffing/ribbing would you recommend? Either to match or contrast…. I wandered about red, but am worried I will look like a Christmas tree!!
21:19 Can you show the Edie please
22:21 just wondering if could explain how fold over elastic works/is used on knickers? Not used it yet, and didn't want to buy til I understood it! Thanks.
23:52 I have quite a big stash of lovely cotton fabrics that are roughly 1m each (some may be slightly bigger). Any suggestions on what tops I could make with them?
24:52 How do you find the straight grain if cutting scraps or repurposing something?

29:56 How to tell what type of jersey fabrics would work for juno PJs. Fabric to make TATB juno PJs not too tricky for someone new to jersey
32:13 Thinking of an overlocker, not sure where to start.
33:04 Bought some liberty silk in their outlet sale. Any tips for sewing it? Do I prewash?
34:51 Sewing buttonholes on my agnes PJ and the one step buttonhole foot on my janome gets stuck on the pocket, any tips?
36:12 Will you be stocking ecru/cream colour for the cosy colours fabric?
37:25 I buy patterns fabric requirement meterage but always end up with a lot left over
39:28 Where to add label in CC elodie dress
40:07 Do fibremood patterns include seam allowance
40:32 How often do you change the needles in your overlocker?
41:20 Can you show sorona ruby fabric and dress pattern suggestions
44:12 I'm new to sewing (made a tilly and the buttons Steve that's how new🤣) and in need of some expert advice.... I'm looking for a easy pattern not to fussy as in a pull on dress the fit loose and just easy to wear and also a fabric that is comfy warm and soft to touch as I'm having major sensory issues and the clothes I buy just aren't right for me ....if you can help in anyway I'd be super grateful....ps love your lives and hints and tips honestly life savers 🥰💗💓
46:36 Fabulous fabric for a winter marnie top
47:24 I never know what to do with Frency Terry. Anything other that the coco. The neckline is too wide

I bought some of the gorgeous chunky knit and have been scratching my head about what to make. It's even more amazing in person. Thank you for addressing it in this show, Lauren.

Hi Lauren, you've mentioned a couple of times whether to quilt first or cut out first. As a quilter I can tell you you're right in quilting first. I was told on a course that the stitching will pull up the fabric slightly so when we make quilts we always quilt first then trim the edges of the quilt before we add the binding.

I machine wash silk in cold water and dry in my dryer. Then when I make a garment with silk, I know I can wash and dry it as normal. Or I can hand wash, line dry. Most silk does well washed and dried in machines.

For jersey scraps left overs Suzi from Check your Thread has made some amazing pieced fabric sweaters.
Also I love to use jersey scraps as part of period pads, for absorbent insides 😊

Is there a jersey knit you could recommend for a t-shirt? One that is not too drapey or thin, with a little structure?
