We shot a bunch of video footage with the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro. All footage was recorded in 4K unless noted otherwise. We used the phones to film each other for our in-depth review video on CNET. Both the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro are capable of capturing 4K HDR video in Dolby Vision. The iPhone 12 supports HDR up to 4K 30 frames per second and the iPhone 12 Pro supports HDR up to 4K 60fps. This video was exported and uploaded as SDR.

This was recorded in 4k 24FPS. That’s why it seems jittery. The iPhone can record in 4k 60FPS which would make it much better to record in

Not sure why, but the video has a lot of jitter to it.... maybe it’s the way it was uploaded ? Or frame rate conversion ?

Can you help me understand something? Why does the HDR Dolby Vission (high efficiency) format takes less space if it's supposed to be the best filming mode, compared to most compatible mode which takes almost double the the space..? I thought the higher the size of file, the more data in the video...

So I can finally move from trusty Huawei P10 to Iphone 12 I think that will be a good upgrade.

I think you have missed (on purpose or by mistake) a step when uploading the video to YouTube...hence the lack of HDR. To get YouTube to recognize the HDR video, open the video on the iPhone's iMove app. Next, upload the video to YouTube from iMove with the HDR option Turn ON. That should do it. YouTube will recognize the HDR video and will play in HDR10 or HLG on compatible devices.

How do you export it to YouTube? I tried to do it directly from my iPhone 12 and it didn't work well.

Watching this video in 720p but it doesn't look like 720p, in short, It's nice! And I can see details clearly. I'm watching in 720p 'cause the internet is slow today and my computer can't support 4K nor 2K 'cause this is an old computer.

How you upload the video, any app or just the IMOVE from the iPhone?

Panning with 24fps doesn’t look good. 24fps is good when the camera is still and subject is moving.

This is not HDR, why say so.
Export it as 10 bit in colorspace bt2020 and you have HDR Don't lie.

Why is the video so jerky? I’ve seen it on many vidoes shot on the iphone 12, it’s like the processor can’t keep up and it drops framerates... anyone else see that?

Hey CNET, you should fix this video and re-upload it. Clearly something is wrong with the jerky frames, the phone does not record like this, it looks And while you're at it, convert it from Dolby Vision to the HDR format YouTube works with...

I noticed the video stutters or jitters. I took video with an iPhone 12 and it did the same thing with 30fps. Maybe it’s an HDR thing. I’ll try it without HDR.
