JEANNE D'ARC

JEANNE D’ARC a vécu de 1412 à 1431. Elle est le symbole de la liberté de la France au même titre que le Général de Gaulle. Ce qu’elle a fait est unique au monde. Une jeune femme dans un monde dominé par les hommes, un monde opprimé par les Anglais et les Bourguignons, elle décide qu’elle a été choisie par Dieu pour bouter les Anglais hors de France alors qu’elle n’a que 17 ans !!!!! Elle est fille de paysan et elle rencontre le roi de France. Elle n’a jamais appris à se battre mais elle revêt une armure, prend une épée, monte sur un cheval et la même année en 1429, elle libère Orléans des mains des Anglais. Elle continuera à se battre sans l’aide du roi et est faite prisonnière à Compiègne par les Bourguignons qui la vendent aux Anglais. Les Anglais veulent sa mort et la brûlent à Rouen en 1431, alors qu’elle n’a que 19 ans. Grâce à elle, les Français ont trouvé le courage, par la suite, de chasser les Anglais de France.

JOAN OF ARC lived from 1412 to 1431. She is the symbol of French freedom as well as General de Gaulle. What she did is unique in the history of the world. A young woman in a world dominated by males, a world oppressed by the English and the Burgundians, she decides that she is the one who will throw the English out of France at he age of 17!!!!! She is the daughter of a peasant and she meets the King of France. She never learned to fight but she puts an armor on, takes up a sword and goes on a horse and the same year in 1429, she delivers Orleans from the English. She goes on fighting without the help of the King and is made prisoner by the Burgundians in Compiègne who sell her to the English. The English want her dead and they put on the pyre when she is only 19 years old. Thanks to her, the French found the courage, later on, to chase the English out of France.

Every Frenchman knows how much he owes to Joan of Arc, If you do not know her story, google her name and read it on wikipedia. You will be surprised what you can do when you have faith. We say in French that "impossible" is not a French word, it was certainly not for Joan of Arc.
