Dr. Nof Atamna-Ismaeel - the first Muslim Arab to win Israel’s MasterChef - is on a quest to make social change through food. And so, she founded the A-Sham Arabic Food Festival, where pairs of Arab and Jewish chefs collaborate on dishes like kishek (a Syrian yogurt soup), and qatayef (a dessert typically eaten during Ramadan).

Directed by Beth Elise Hawk, Breaking Bread is a film about hope, synergy and exotic fare. It illustrates what happens when people focus on the person, rather than her religion; ​on the public, rather than the politicians.

Like the Eucharist. When you can come together for a meal, it's harder to focus on your differences. And thus breaking bread or sharing a loaf can build a bridge and tear down walls.

This is beautiful. It reminds me of the Seeds program. It also reminds me that there ARE like-awareness folk out there who can hold onto their humanity...and still have HOPE for this reckoning in every member of our extinction-headed species. The two top priorities (if one has to list and weight) are taking care of ALL children and MOTHER Earth.
