I love how overcomplicated we’ve made timezones. In the U.S. some indian reservations follow daylight savings while other neighboring ones don’t, such that a map displaying the actual time in each spot would have the borders flip back and forth every 6 months!

If anyone is wondering why that bold line between Quebec and Labrador disappears in 1949, it's because the Dominion of Newfoundland officially became part of Canada.

The rest of Canada: "Why can't you just be normal!?"

Yukon and Newfoundland: * Screaming *

One small note: Saskatchewan is one of the few North American jurisdictions that does not observe Daylight Savings Time, thus are UTC-6 all year round where as Alberta next door is UTC-6 in summer and UTC-7 in winter.

Would be very interesting to see one for Europe, since France and Spain used to have the same timezone as Portugal and Britain

North Dakota fact:
In North Dakota, in January, the average temperature is 11.6 F
North Dakota fact 2:
We have 2 timezones here. Most people in the state however live in CST.

Why did the timezones move west during ww2? Was it just for better communication with the UK? Was it to get people to work earlier?

Nicely done! I remember that Cozumel was in Central time when I visited there in 2008 (along w/ the rest of Cent. & E. Mexico back then), and I see that it's in Eastern time now.

It's too small to appear on this map, but, fun fact, West Wendover, Nevada, is officially in Mountain Time to be with its twin city, Wendover, Utah. This change occurred in 1999.

So, Greenland, four time zones, the TINY little yellow dot on the north-western coast? That would be Thule Airbase. The Orange one is the bog standard Greenland timezone. The Red is weird, it's Danmarkshavn, Mestersvig and Daneborg, the Primary Stations of the Sirius Patrol, a unit of the Danish military that perform patrols up and down the North-Eastern coast of Greenland, mainly to enforce sovereignty of the area, and S&R of course.

The light red? That's Ittoqqortoormiit, some 350ish people, the last city before the massive Greenland National Park north of it.

The Government of Greenland will be reforming their time zones over the next few years.

0:30 how nice of Greenland to change that time zone in the Far West of itself for the one person and dozen polar bears that live there.

It would have been interesting to include areas which do/do not observe daylight saving time, like the majority of Arizona, Puerto Rico (and I guess most Carribbean), Yukon, etc.

In this video, the United States has not changed time zones since 1984 when most of Alaska starts observing UTC-09:00, but if you mention West Wendover, Nevada (which is too small to be shown in this video), the town has moved out of Pacific Time (UTC-08:00) in October 1999 due to strong economic ties with neighboring Wendover, Utah, making West Wendover the only portion of Nevada to legally observe Mountain Time (UTC-07:00).

I was just telling my daughter yesterday about Newfoundlands experimental double daylight savings time in 1988, it was still light at 11pm, glad it didnt take.
