X-Men '97 is an American animated television series created by Beau DeMayo for the streaming service Disney+, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team X-Men. It is a revival of X-Men: The Animated Series (1992–1997), continuing from where that series ends. It depicts the X-Men facing dangerous new challenges following the loss of their leader Professor Charles Xavier. X-Men '97 is produced by Marvel Studios Animation, with DeMayo serving as head writer for the first two seasons, and Jake Castorena as supervising director.

Several cast members return from the original series to reprise their roles or voice new characters, including Cal Dodd, Lenore Zann, George Buza, Catherine Disher, Chris Potter, Alison Sealy-Smith, Adrian Hough, Christopher Britton, Alyson Court, Lawrence Bayne, and Ron Rubin. The revival was first discussed in June 2019 and was formally announced in November 2021; DeMayo and Castorena were involved by then. Chase Conley and Emi Yonemura also directed episodes. DeMayo was fired as head writer after completing work on the series' first two seasons in March 2024 ahead of the series premiere. The series is the first X-Men project from Marvel Studios since the studio regained the film and television rights to the characters. Animation was provided by Studio Mir and is a modernized version of the original series' style.

Happy Nation is the debut studio album by Swedish pop group Ace of Base. It was initially released in Denmark on 2 November 1992 by Mega Records. During development of the record, the group was heavily influenced by a Jamaican reggae band residing in a nearby studio. For a release in North America, Japan and some Latin American countries, the album was retitled The Sign with a heavily revised track listing and three new tracks. To coincide with this, Happy Nation was reissued with the new tracks in other territories as Happy Nation (U.S. Version). In 1995, Guinness Book of World Records named the LP the best-selling debut studio effort in music history, at more than 19 million copies sold worldwide. By 1998, Happy Nation/The Sign had sold approximately 21 million units including 9 million in the US alone. Happy Nation/The Sign is one of the best-selling albums of all time.

Lyrics:
Laudate omnes gentes laudate
Magnificat in secula
Et anima mea laudate
Magnificat in secula

Happy nation, livin' in a happy nation
Where the people understand and dream of perfect man
Situation leading to sweet salvation
For the people, for the good, for mankind brotherhood
(We're traveling in time)

Ideas by man and only that will last
And over time, we've learned from the past
That no man's fit to rule the world alone
A man will die, but not his ideas

Happy nation, livin' in a happy nation
Where the people understand and dream of perfect man
Situation leading to sweet salvation
For the people, for the good, for mankind brotherhood
(We're traveling in time)

Tell 'em we've gone too far
Tell 'em we've gone too far (happy nation)
Come through and I will dance with you (happy nation)
Tell 'em we've gone too far (happy nation)
Come through and I will dance with you (happy nation)
Tell 'em we've gone too far
Come through and I will dance with you

Happy nation, livin' in a happy nation
Where the people understand and dream of perfect man
Situation leading to sweet salvation
For the people, for the good, for mankind brotherhood

Happy nation
Happy nation

The choice of the song takes this scene to another level, the lyrics reflecting Genosha, the sensual vibe to match Rogue and Magneto, the ominous choir for Madelyne's vision

Obsessed

It took me a while to realize this was playing in the background in Madelyne Pryor's vision in the first episode.

This song was the Rains of Castamere for xmen and perfectly set the ominous tone for the horror that came next. Never expected such bold powerful storytelling from Disney xmen, much less animated Disney xmen. Best marvel production in YEARS

Fun fact: Gambit's original voice actor from the 90's is now voicing Cable in X-Men '97. Gambit is now voiced by an entirely different actor and I LOVE IT ❤️.

Gambit and Magneto both true gents here—they know the woman always decides. No pressure, or being emotional with the hurt they feel, just being their true sevles, and not letting it get in the way or cloud their judgement when it's time for business.💪💪 And that only makes this episode hit even harder.😭😭

Bro that lady singing eerily as the tension builds up and Cable runs up telling everyone to run... Holy shit, this episode had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Absolute cinema.

This scene and the horror to follow was the best in the entire MCU franchise, including the movies. Spooky, mysterious, sexy, dynamic, tragic, horrific. I was in absolue awe and reaffirmed why I loved the x-men to begin with. Though this season ended on a pretty weak note, this, for me, will be the high point of artistry in superhero entertainment.

A theory :

Cable says at 2:24 "Not again", which means he has been trying to change the timeline of his past or the present and warns about the mass murder at Genosha. This is the same storyboard as "Time Fugitives" like the previous episodes of X-men : The Animated Series.

We can't lose hope on Gambit's return

Hate to go all GCSE, but the significance of the song ‘a man will die but not his ideas’ is entirely what magneto is basing his actions around, Xavier’s Death, but not letting his hope for a better mutant future die with him. And Genosha now is seen as this ‘happy nation’ which reflects magnetos original vision of a mutant utopia. The song perfectly combines the two ideas and captures magnetos character in this series perfectly. The dance between magneto and rogue, considering events before this and him choosing her as his empress, reflects another line in the song not heard here ‘no man is fit to rule the world alone’ hence he not only has his council, but also his empress. I will now receive my full marks haha
